So now that we know about minotaurs I'm courious about gnomes. Actually kender more but both of these are a lot easier to figure out. I'm guessing you won't use the regular gnomes but make new ones who will be doing -2 wis. Then I wondered what would the plus be. I figured Int but then people will want to make wizard gnomes which goes against dragonlance setting.

I'm interested in how the "Thinker Gnomes" will turn out for the new Dragonlance system and in post Soul War Krynn. In the Fifth Age this new group of Gnomes appeared, those who don't suffer from the chaotic curse of "Tinkering." Gnomes had a kinda of charm about them, but they were almost always the "comic relief" in DL. Maybe with the Thinker Gnomes that cliche' will change.

I always liked the idea of geniuses with no common sense though.

Eh. Don't worry "Thinker" Gnomes are a small minority among Ansalon's resident gnome population. Their the exception rather then the rule. The vast majority of gnomes will be your "geniouses with no common sense" as you put it. Theres plenty of room and time for both. ;)

Thinker Gnomes have been around for longer than what you may think. Granted, people say I'm quite mad...

Very True

Mad Gnomes were always a pretty cool concept.

Yep, the ones who threw the entire machinery of gnomish society into chaos by creating things that worked.

There was also the gnomoi of Taladas, who were the original gnomes before being cursed by Reorx. The cursed gnomes were known as the "minoi". Basically the two gnomish subraces existed in harmony, with the "minoi" providing most of the revolutionary new ideas, and the "gnomoi" taking the ideas and cutting the "extra features".

Myself, I think you can be a Tinker Gnome and still be more than comic releif, you just have to give them the right abilities to be useful. I noticed for example the "Engineer" advanced class. It has an ability called "Tinker" which involves getting a device to work more powerfully for a few rounds, but then "burning out" requiring a repair. There is also a class ability known as "Integrate Tech" which involves making alien and human technology work together. That would be especially useful in a dragonlance setting if you called it "integrate magic". That would allow you to use magical items to power gnomish inventions.

DLA had the original Thinker Gnomes in the form of Mad Gnomes. IIRC, Mad Gnomes were considered to be gnomes who had "traveled from beyond" (meaning coming from another world).

As Terry points out above, they show up in the Time of the Dragon boxed set on the continent of Taladas as the gnomoi.

It wasn't until SAGA that the term "Thinker Gnome" came about (to my knowledge).
