Eviction notice on your door this morning? Can't get your car out of impound after your D.U.I? Need money to go see Queensryche and Dream Theater concert this summer? Well here's your ticket to the high life.

Design a new DS Weblogo Contest has officially begun! Create a new dark sun logo that can be placed on a webpage to show a sign of unity and support amongst the Dark Sun community. Entrants must host their design online and provide a link here on this thread. All logo's must be in .gif format wth a transparent background in order to be displayed on any webpage. The graphic should include the text 'Dark Sun' or 'DS', 3.5 or 3E, with 'community', 'on the web' or somesuch as extra. K.I.S.S. is in effect as well (Keep It Simple Stupid). Graphics should be large enough for accurate detail if necessary and need not be 'actual size'. Banners are permissible, but may be judged differently (depending on the number, likely a small one, they may receive their own catagory). Voting shall take place on this thread by the entire DS community after it has been deemed that no one else is likely to submit any more entries.

On to the important part ;)

Grand Prize!
The top prize to be awarded is a bill. Yup. One crisp new dollar bill, U.S. currency to be shipped off to your home! I know, all that just for a simple logo! You must think we're crazy! Yup, we are. You can opt out of the cash prize and instead solicite an embarassingly personal and witty remark that I will put into my sig for the period of one month. But you wouldn't want to do that to poor Mach, would you?

Runner Up
Fiddy Cent. Two dull, beat up, been run over a few times and spent time in a sewer, U.S. quartes. I know, we're taking out second mortages on our homes and selling our children here to fund this contest, so give it your best. You may once again opt out of the cash prizes (we'll know your completely wacko if you do) and instead be granted the above chance to emabarrase Mach, but the duration for 2nd prize is one week.

So get creative, open up Microsoft Paint! and get cracking. You know you want to . . . Mach commands you . . . Mach is not your friend . . . Mach is leaving now . . .

Heh, I know, its really gonna set me back by years in my early retirement plans, but I guess I'll handle all costs of shipping ;)

You know, I'm rather surprised, I figured there'd be a line of people just jumping at the chance to humiliate and degrade me for a month. Hmmm . . .

Actually, just for kicks, I'd take the 1 dollar over the insult. Covering shipping of that dollar to Norway, where BTW it is illegal to send cash in the mail, wouldn't be cheap - even if you send a check. The funny thing is that I would never cash in said check, since cashing in a check in foreign currency would cost more than such a small check is worth.

Anyway, I think we have a winner, since there's only one contestant. Go Ropp!

If anything, it could be the cover picture for the last adventure in the hexad (??) Deluxe Adventure Campaign, "Return of the Space Halflings." Of course, now the Messenger has become a Giant Space Hamster, but that's just being consistent with DS inconsistency, so by silly hamster logic it makes sense.

*must eat breakfast. must clear mind.*

Okay, if nothing else, when the contest ends I really think you deserve a runner up consolation prize ;)

Err . . . I dunno what it would be yet, but I'll think of something good.

Not that I didn't enjoy a good laugh (fell off my chair, literally), but I was really hoping for something more presentable and in tune with DS (joking aside). Anyhow, if no one else posts anything good for a week, Ropp will win hands down the Grand Prize (since he'd be the only contributor). I ahh . . . don't think I'll use your logo though . . . ahh, not that its not good or anything . . . its just *begins to sweat* its ahhh . . . not what I was hoping for .

Errr . . . that just plain old kicks @#$!

I'm still hoping to give it at least a few days but uh, that's awfully close to being what I was hoping for ;) Anyway to get it without the background as a transparant?

I assume you mean transparency instead of the parchment?

If so, yes. However, it'd lose some of it's "oomph" that way.

Alternatively, I could make the parchment an octagon shape.

But if it's to be transparent, I'd have to dispense with the shadow, and that's part of what makes it "pop".

Glad you like it.

Thanks for the compliments. I'm glad people like it.

Give Mach some credit for going over to the art gallery board and fishing for some contributions. I wouldn't have known about this "contest" otherwise. ;)

I like the Dark Sun setting. I was slated to play in a DS campaign for a long time, but it was never launched... and then the DM who was to run it moved away. To compound the tragedy, that DM and I had a deal... he wouldn't buy Ravenloft products, and I wouldn't buy Dark Sun products. We did this so that we both had something to run that the other was clueless about.

Oh well. Best laid plans and all that rot.

I'm glad to see people are still keeping the setting alive.

If anyone would like to design a website around the look of that logo, let me know. I can do up some companion graphics easily enough.

The reason it's a .txt is that geocities doesn't like the remote loading of pictures. Changing the file from a .bmp to a .txt lets you fool the system into allowing you to post pictures on message boards.

If someone actually wants the picture for kicks (and that's more than I bargained for ;)), it's available as a .bmp *here.*

(Or at least, it will be in a bit. Just exceeded my data transfer limit, but that should clear within the hour.)

Nyt,

If you could find a way to sneak that onto the athas.org site (under downloads perhaps), I would be eternally grateful. You could call it "A Dramatic Rendering of Athas's Next Great Challenge."

It's of course understood if that's not practical, but I thought it might be worth it just to mess with people. ;)

Well, I guess its rather clear. Astan wins hands down the big, super, wopping, you can now retire in the lap of luxurey surrounded by the rich and famous Grand Prize! Please claim your prize by no later than July 30th at 12:00 pm Eastern Standard Time ;) Should you opt for the secondary default prize, please send me an email of something you would like me to put in my sig (link to a website, humorous remark, charitaible organizational plug like P.E.T.A. or anything else that you want to shamelessly plug away).

Ropp, as the runner up for giving me a stomache cramp from laughing so hard, you too may claim your prize. Send me an email with either your address to claim your two beat up bits or let me know what you want my sig to display.

Well, maybe I'll run more contests just the the heck of it, once I pay off my loans for this one (but then again, I do have 2 slightly used kidneys to pawn . . .).

Change "Online Community" to "World of the Crimson Sun"?

That'd make it: "Dark Sun -- World of the Crimson Sun"

Is that what you want?

Well Astan, you've gone and done it now, haven't you ;)

Here's a request. I need a logo, banner style. The word Gestalt is the title of the site, should be prominent in the logo. Somewhere else in the logo, "News and Resources for Dark Sun 3e". I was thinking of some kind of sand backdrop (either in the horizon or top down view) with the news etc written in the sand. I'm having major problems trying to do it under Image Composer (bleh). If you want to take a shot at it, that would be wonderful.
