Just like with the revised core books, I find some of the art to be...umm...not exactly bad, but well...weird or misguided (have you seen the picture of the archmage in the new DM's guide, it's downright horrible).

Like the draconians picture, makes my skin crawl. And call me color blind, but that 'black dragon' has never even seen black.

Edit: notice I said 'some'. I like many of the images in the new books, it's just that to my eyes the quality of the art varies from terrible to brilliant.

It looks great.

Art-wise, I have to say it's great too, except for the bimbo centaur.

I have to say this DLCS is looking more and more interesting. I think I'll have to put it on my 'to buy' list.

(BTW you are right about the Archmage picture in the dMG, it is horrible. I can hardly believe it, because Lockwood is one of my favorite artists.)

All of the art pictured looks wonderful. I'm very happy with it! And we can always count on Larry Elmore to make a lady centaur look hot.

The artwork shown there looks really good. I don't like the Aurak picture though. Not sure why, just dosen't look right.

Those were great pics. Now, if you want to complain about a pic, look at the Mystic picture...let's just say that I don't like that artist (especially dislike the work in the Wheel of Time RPG book).

I don't know who that artist is but I could take or leave the work. I've seen better and I've seen much worse.

I like all the art! Including the Aurauk with the funky hair-doo, heh. I wonder how much hairspray he has to use to get that look. hee hee :D

I'm very fond of the illustration of the mystic. I much prefer it to the illustration of the noble. The artist is Rebecca Guay, well known for her extraordinary work on Magic the Gathering cards and in book illustrations.

Well...let's see.

I think the Aurak looks incredible! Maybe needs to be a little more gold, IMHO...but other than that...I really like it. (to me...the draconians are the way Parkinson invisined them in "What Do You Mean We're Lost!?")

Not quite sure about the Baaz...but the Kapak looks great. Did you see!?! No tail on the Kapak! Woo hoo! Someone has been paying attention.

The Black Dragon looks AWESOME!! Although I do agree that the it is a bit bluish. heh heh

The Centaur...beautiful! Now that is an Ansalonian Centaur if I ever saw one. (the MM Centaur is just to beastial in my opinion). Hmm...only Elmore could make a horses haunches look hot... Um...maybe that was a bit odd...I apologize for that.

Lord Ausric Krell...I assume that bad a$$ lookin' mo' is the new Death Knight? Wow...very imposing. Like the ram horns...nice touch.

Let's see...am I missing anything? Oh yeah...the Thanoi. Cool interpretation of them. I always thought of them as stupid goblin like creatures...but I like how this artist really made it look like a walrus with thumbs. ;)

Oh...and the map...very very nice. It is unfortunate that there isn't a full size fold out map. Isn't that going to be confusing to anyone who hasn't played Dragonlance before? With all these piece meal maps...they aren't going to know how it all goes together, are they?

All I can say is...I can't wait to get my grubby little hands on this beaut!

EDIT: Well, I guess I was incorrect. I didn't see the whole picture. The Kapak does have a tail. Ah well...it's not like I expected that little tidbit to make it. For some reason...this is how I've always seen Draconians:

Baaz; Tiny wings, stumpy tail...most human looking of all of them, can only glide.
Kapak; Tiny wings, no tail, poisonous saliva, can only glide.
Bozak; Bigger wings, can only glide, larger tail, slightly magically oriented.
Sivak; most draconic looking, very large, long serpantine tail, big wings, can fly.
Aurak; very large, long sleek tail, no wings, very magically oriented.

I guess most of that comes from The Art of the Dragonlance Saga and the original write ups on the dracs.

Looking back over the snippits posted, I noticed that neither Paladine nor Takhisis are shown with their domains.
Now I know that currently, neither are about, but what about us still playing 4th age (or earlier)? Please tell me that they have domains listed in the book somewhere...

I agree the Aurak looks beautiful. I don't particularly care for the Bozak and Sivak drawings in the book. And yes the Parkinson painting is perfect. (If that is the one where they are standing in the snow .. the same one the minis were made from) Shame that wasn't included in the book as well. Some would argue about reusing old art .. but some are just perfect. Like the painting of the Heros sitting around the campfire by Elmore. I am going to have to get my hands on those two prints or posters or something.

I love the centaur, the one in the MM looks awful. No D&D product would be complete without Elmore's work. He shaped my gaming eyes in the old red basic D&D book I first owned. I don't understand the trend of reprinting the Chronicles with new artists everytime. The newest looking one looks like something painted by that Boris guy.

I was starting to warm up to some of the chromatic dragons in the MM. The black dragon looked interesting. But I think he was drawn too big. This black dragon looks more what I think he should look like. I think it only looks more bluish because of the lighting. However I have always visioned these as black with a blue or purple sheen to them. That is how I painted mine in the villians mini set. Black with purple highlights.

What about the cover art?!?!? That is awesome. Quite a neat angle of the high clerist (sp?) tower. Nice to see one of the heros of the lance in the book. (I disagree with the person that complained about the write ups of the heros being in some of the older books. And I hope their stats show up in some accesory down the road)

Oh yeah .. I like the mystic painting as well. It has a haunting look to it.

They are probably saving them for the Age of Despair Era Book (or whatever it's called).

I'm just hoping to see Dhamon and some of the other Heroes of the Heart in Age of Mortals book. I would really like to see Ulin and Sunrise. heh heh

He is the new replacement for Lord Soth. You know, like the two Darren's on Bewitched (like we couldn't tell). Wow... I guess I'm showing my age there...

Now if we can just get a replacement for Tasslehoff. :D

Is he not based in some sort of past story? novel? I've never read about him. Did they just create him? Just curious.

His story has yet to be told. Your first glimpse of him will be in the DLCS!

I had no problem with the Krynn Centaur, but I did also like the inhuman one in the MM as well.

As for the Black Dragon, sure there may be a blue shade in the black, but at least is shows them to be truly the most beautiful of the ten dragons (imho).

I loved the Aurak draconian. I also like the Baaz. The Bozak draconian... eh.. the style of the image conflicts with most of the rest of the book too much for me. But at least with the body structure difference between that picture and Kang's, it shows that there is some variation in the species (like there are tall and thin humans along with short and fat humans... or tall and fat or short and thin, etc.).

I didn't like the Brass Dragon image though. There was no detail in the image. It looks like the artist didn't finish almost.

One of my other favorite images is of the Sargonnas Condor Avatar sweeping down upon a Sargon cleric. GREAT DETAIL!

Anything else scheduled to come out on Ausric in the future (after DLCS I mean)?

[I picture of Soth's soul moving on to the next world, and him for an instant looking back, seeing Ausric, and then just having one small smirk before parting Krynn forever.]

The same thing happened in "I Dream of Jeannie" too.

As to the replacement of T-hoff, they better not...

Well, unfortunately whoever the next prominent kender character will be is going to labeled as "Tas's replacement". Stepping out from a predecessor's shadow will always be tough.

Palin and Dalamar on simultaneous initiatives: "Tell me about it."

Oops, NM I misunderstood what you were talking about. Just hit me and I'll be off on my business. There was an ep on IDoJ where there was two Tonys. I'll shut up now...

I disagree and agree. I love almost all of Elmore's work.

However this Centaur. I don't like it. A bimbo that looks like she doesn't really understand what is going on.

I am sorry Larry, love your work, just not this.

(BTW I don't like the one in the MM either)

I love the Aurak though. Cool, a draconian with a personality!

Centaur looks good, in my opinion, but I do agree that she looks a tad lost.

First, no I didn't read it.

Just to clarify myself, I do not mean that Draconians do not have personality.
I just think in a lot of pictures you don't see it. And in this one I do.

In pictures, yes, they always seem to be lacking personality. But after Kang's Regiment, I will never look at draconians the same again.
