#1zombiegleemaxJul 18, 2003 4:11:21 | I know this may sound like a crazy idea, but it recently came up in a campaign the other day, and I just thought I would post the question here for debate/discussion. Thoughts?. |
#2zombiegleemaxJul 18, 2003 4:12:50 | Also, if it is possible could the 'triple-throw' epic ability then be applied to a dragonlance?. |
#3jonesyJul 18, 2003 6:27:54 | I'd say you could, but since it's not designed for it:Improvised Thrown Weapons: Sometimes objects not crafted to be weapons (in this instance I'd take it to also include those weapons not specifically designed for throwing) get thrown. Because they are not designed for this use, all characters who use improvised thrown weapons are treated as not proficient with them and suffer a -4 penalty on their attack rolls. Improvised thrown weapons have a range increment of 10 feet. Their size and the damage they deal have to be adjudicated by the DM. Also: Thrown weapons can only be thrown one-handed. A character can throw a thrown weapon with one hand even if it would be two-handed for you due to the character's size, but doing so counts as a full-round action because the weapon is bulkier and harder to handle than most thrown weapons. Add the character's Strength bonus to damage. |
#4lenin97Jul 18, 2003 8:44:47 | I have no idea what the DLCS says but I would imagine that you could throw the footman dragonlances but not the larger mounted dragonlances. JMHO:D |
#5zombiegleemaxJul 18, 2003 8:59:27 | I wouldn't think you could throw a mounted dragonlance (although a giant may not have much of a problem). Does anybody know whether the DLCS has anything on this. It really is annoying that I won't get my copy until September . |
#6zombiegleemaxJul 18, 2003 10:22:24 | *points to the remnants of the Whitestone* Hmmm... |
#7zombiegleemaxJul 18, 2003 10:25:14 | It really is annoying that I won't get my copy until September <---- i know the feeling In 2e footman dragonlances could be thrown with a -2 penalty, with the 3e rules a -4 would be better. My home version of the DL works as a long spear, and since the weapon is not designed to be thrown it has a -8 penalty, but can be halved with the throw anything feat from S&F. Could anyone post the DLCS version of the Dragonlance? |

#9shugiJul 18, 2003 13:59:08 | There's also no difference between the footman and mounted dragonlances in the DLCS. I suppose you could treat "Lesser" lances as the footman variety, while "Greater" lances are the mounted kind. Alternately, footman's dragonlances could be longspears with the same stats. |
#10zombiegleemaxJul 18, 2003 20:56:10 | Thanks all. I may just look up the 2e stats for this anyway, since I don't have access to this type of thing in the DLCS yet. |
#11zombiegleemaxJul 19, 2003 11:52:14 | Originally posted by Bookwyrm A dragonlance is a standard lance, but with additional special properties when used against a dragon. So you can use the standard lance description/stats when determining appropriate size/penalties for trying to throw it. |
#12zombiegleemaxJul 19, 2003 11:54:39 | Good idea ;) . |
#13zombiegleemaxJul 22, 2003 1:28:53 | sorry but i have to point out the story tasselhoff promised he would never ever tell. the dragonlance thrown at the dragon shatters on impact |
#14zombiegleemaxJul 22, 2003 1:49:44 | What are you talking about?. |
#15daedavias_dupJul 22, 2003 2:01:47 | In Dragons of a Summer Flame, the mounted knights throw their lances at Chaos. |
#16zombiegleemaxJul 22, 2003 9:14:44 | Ah...that explains it. Thanks. ;) |
