#3OtakkunJul 19, 2003 13:28:47 | Sorry for being off topic, but I can't seem to understand this:Caster Level: 5th; Prerequisites: Forge Ring, create water, speak with animals, speak with plants; Market Price: 18180cp (4950cp (orison as 5th level caster + 10% for differing ability) + 13,500cp (2nd level spell at 5th caster level - 75% for similar ability) + 27,000cp (3rd level spell at 5th caster level) / (5/ 2charges per day)); Cost to Create: 9090cp + 727XP. Could you explain to me the +10% for differing ability and the -75% for similar ability modifiers? Thanx ;) Edo. |
#4star_gazer_02Jul 19, 2003 16:09:49 | Market Price: 18180cp (4950cp (orison as 5th level caster + 10% for differing ability) + 13,500cp (2nd level spell at 5th caster level - 75% for similar ability) + 27,000cp (3rd level spell at 5th caster level) / (5/ 2charges per day)); Cost to Create: 9090cp + 727XP. Actually it's a mistake. Nice catch. For items that don't take up spaces, like wands and Staves, there is a -75% price bonus for powers that are similar. Unfortunately, this does not apply to 'spaced' items like rings, unless you want to pay the 2x price penalty. Anyhow, the +10% price penalty is for secondary powers on 'spaced' items that are either A) Not similar at all or B) Are placed on 'spaced' items. Page 243 of the 3.0DMG in the Behind the Curtain sidebar. Also, I misapplied the charges /day modifier... it should be on each one. the real Market Price should be: ((0.5 level spell x 5 caster level x 1800 command word) / 5) / 1 charge/day x 1.1 multiple powers on a spaced item penalty = 990cp ((2 spell level x 5 caster level x 1800 command word) / 5) / 2 charge/day) x 1.1 multipower penalty = 7920cp ((3 spell level x 5 caster level x 1800 command word) / 5) / 2 charge/day) = 10,800cp For a grand total of 19710cp. cost to create = 9855cp + 789XP Note: I've made the change in the first post to reflect the new math. I need sleep if i'm making stupid mistakes like that. |
#5star_gazer_02Jul 21, 2003 9:58:18 | Ok... more items! This time there are psionic items! #6star_gazer_02Jul 21, 2003 11:05:26 | I'll finish posting more magic items a bit later today. Right now, I want to elaborate on how you price metamagic feats for use w/ magic items, ala the metamagic feat rods in TaB. I spent an entire day factoring the prices until I came up with a workable system. I have no idea if this is the system that WotC uses but this one makes sense and it's easy to apply. The general rule is this: slvl x clvl x 1800gp slvl is the Maximum Spell Level that you wish to be able to affect with a feat, either 3rd, 6th or 9th. clvl is approximately the Caster Level that should be able to accomplish this, though this seems a tad ad hoc to me. The lowest level of feats has an additional modifier of x 0.5. The 1800gp is a multiplier for 3 uses a day, any more than that can be seriously unbalancing... I would gladly pay much more than 534,600 for unlimited uses of Quicken Power. Metamagic feats come in 6 differing power levels: 0 - 5 and the only difference is the caster level for each spell level affected. If you don't want to follow the math, just follow this chart: Level 0 Metamagic feats [Cooperative, Energy Substitution] 3 x 1 x 0.5 x 1800 = 2,700gp 6 x 2 x 0.5 x 1800 = 10,800gp 9 x 3 x 0.5 x 1800 = 24,300gp Level 1 Metamagic feats [Enlarge, Extend, Silent, Still, Sculpt] 3 x 1 x 1800 = 5,400gp 6 x 2 x 1800 = 21,600gp 9 x 3 x 1800 = 48,600gp Level 2 Metamagic Feats [Empower] 3 x 3 x 1800 = 16,200gp 6 x 6 x 1800 = 64,800gp 9 x 9 x 1800 = 145,800gp Level 3 Metamagic Feats [Maximise, Chain, Delay, Repeat, Widen] 3 x 5 x 1800 = 27,00gp 6 x 10 x 1800 = 108,000gp 9 x 15 x 1800 = 243,000gp Level 4 Metamagic Feats [Persistent, Twin] 3 x 7 x 1800 = 37,800gp 6 x 14 x 1800 = 151,200gp 9 x 21 x 1800 = 340,200gp Level 5 Metamagic Feats [Quicken, Energy Admixture] 3 x 11 x 1800 = 59,400gp 6 x 22 x 1800 = 237,600gp 9 x 33 x 1800 = 534,600gp grabbed from the ELH Boards Metapsionic feats work exactly the same way... if a feat costs +2 then it's a Level 1 Metapsionic Feat, if it costs +8, then it's a level 4... of course you may need to ad hoc it for really powerful feats...or feats that fall in between two categories in power, but if that's the case, you generally can't go wrong with ajudicating it to the next higher level. Now that you know how, you can add metamagic/-psionic feats to your magic items, just remember to add a +10% penalty in cost to any power or ability that is added on.... |
