Hey.

I'm converting my stuff, and I'm having some problems with the Half-elf's animal related abilities...

The way it is described in the source material, it would make sense to give the half-elf the Wild Empathy ability, and maybe an animal companion, but now that both of these are class abilities, it doesn't really work well, since a Half-elf druid would have superposing abilities...

I'm thinking of giving the half-elf a +2 bonus on Wild Empathy if he selects a class which also grants this ability, but I'm not sure there's a precedent for this in the mechanics...

Animal companion, no idea.

Any thoughts?

Simply, if its not a class skill for the half-elf, they can gain Wild Empathy as a class skill. If it is, they gain a +2 racial bonus for it.

Exactly. It's a class feature.

And giving a class feature to a race isn't that good in my opinion...

You could give a half-elf a +2 racial bonus to Charisma related rolls when dealing with animals. That would stack with Wild Empathy and with Handle Animal without superimposing on anything.

Animal companion is easy enough as it can stack with class-based companions. Such a companion isn't going to have the supernatural abilities of a druid's companion so it's not the same thing. A half-elf druid just gets two furry friends.
