hi guys!
I am very lucky to instruct a dnd summer seminar for 16-18 players. I even get a decent payment for it.
I taught them how to play a charcter not as a hacker and slasher, but as a colorful role player.

the next four days, they asked me to DM them a dark sun adventure.
I have 4 sessions of 4 hours each.

I have thought about the following adventure but would like to get ideas from you guys...

they have regular dnd characters, third edition level 5.
---------
it is the time before kalak's demiss. something is killing the druids, the land itself is poisoned somehow, and when the druids use their spells, they become sick and die.

one arch druid kalentar, has exerted the most power he can and asked athas itself to bring help. the help was in the form of the adventurers from another world (I know, athas is closed, but).

because these adventurers could still take power and are less affected by the strange illness.

they will travel to tyr with another druid, see athasian life ETC.

in tyr they will discover an evil plan by kalak, who needs more power to build his ziggurat.

his defilers found a way to reverse the tree of life effects. they took three out of the 10 trees in kalak's gardens, and manipulated them into one massive tree of death. this monster can take the life of the planet and give it to the slaves who work in the ziggurat.

the party will discover the thing, and destroy it...

any help, and suggestions, thanks in advance...

If they start off as a "standard" D&D party, they'll get mugged real quick for their metal stuff...

Decide which bits of Athas and Athasian life you want them to visit/experience, and guide them that way...

One would presume that this "tree of death" is well-guarded; one way to get close to it might be for the party to sell themselves into slavery specifically so they'll get bought by one of the Defilers in question...

A very interesting idea.

If the PCs make it to Athas with all of their gear in tact, you wouldn't need to have them sell themselves into slavery. They would likely be arrested by the templars for having 'obviously raided the treasury of King Kalak'.

If the Tree of Death is helping give energy to the slaves (keeping them alive even after they've been worked almost to death), what are the consequences of destroying the tree? Would hundreds of slaves suddenly die from over exhaustion. Would the PCs actually become murderers by killing the Tree of Death, helping a few druids but causing the deaths of so many slaves?

I want them to get the dark sun feel, so obviously they cannot use any of their equipment, because they will look out of place.

and they will get mugged that way.

so I gave them a new list of equipment.

the destruction of the tree of death will cause many slaves to die, probably, but maybe the players could work something out against it, maybe the druids will helop them use the original trees of life.
