Okay.. well, where to start? I don't know.. I guess let's start from the beginning, like a biography-sence..

well, I was always intersted in myth and magic, so of course I would only find myself in D&D and the likes. I actually knew a few people who played D&D as I was growing up, but they would NEVER include me, cuz they were very hard-core. Is teaching a newb something against the laws of D&D or what? I don't understand..

..anyway.. so blah blah blah, I met a guy in my last school class who was a lot like me, and said, "You should read Dragonlance"

So what did I do? I picked up a few Dragonlance novels out of the library. However, the way Chronicles starts, I don't really like how they all know each other already and stuffs, makes me think there's something being done without a reason, and I am a killer for reasons.

So after only reading the first few pages of "Dragons of Autumn Twilight", I went to a bookstore and picked up "The Soulforge"

I liked how it started off with the characters all meeting each other and stuffs, and I LOVED how it all got working again in the Chronical series (No spoilers please, as of right now, I am only 1/2 way through "Dragons of Winter Night")

However, my point of this post is...... I have always DIED to get into these kinda RPGs, but I haven't found anyone who I can play with. I have a recently made a few friends who are playing a few AD&D campains, and they inculded me in them a few times.. naturally, I fell in love :D As I knew I would.

But... I guess here is my point.. I come here, and see.. Monster stat 6+3 and Class stat 5+6.. and things such as that being discussed.. "How strong is a dragon?", "What advantages/disadvantages does a Kender race have?" etc.. those things.. I don't completely understand. Yes, for gamers, I can see how it works, but I am going to be selfish for a moment here, and I HAVE no one to game with.

After typing all I have, I can't really remember my actual point in this post, other then that even though you all may be hard-core gamers, some visiters here may not be. So basically, this place needs a newbie forum, for newbies.

Yeah I guess it can be a little strange with the abbreviations and all but if you have any questions feel free to ask and someone will definately explain whatever you need.

Welcome to Dragonlance

Well I know i started playing DnD in junior high but I didnt learn on my own. I joined other people and learned from them and their games and now I am a compulsive player.

I truly like to play but my charachters all seem to turn out muscle bound, hehe.

The best thing is to find atleast one other persone to play with and go from there. Play slow that you can learn the rules but the key is to have fun. The rules are all suggestions so as long as you and your friend(s) are having fun then you are playing correctly.

Remember that maybe by a min/max standard a home game may not be played totaly by the rules but if you are ALL having a good time then well its a good thing.

Oh, sometimes you can hook up with a group from your local hobby shop. Ask them there they may have a board or phone list of people looking for a game to play or join.

We had the forums split one time before with a gaming forum as well, and it didn't do as well. I'm not inclined to create a "newbie forum" here.

However, Paladin and I discussed having such a forum on Dragonlance.com's upcoming forums.

I'll also try to update the FAQ sometime soon, and get it re-posted. I've got a lot of updates, so it may take me a bit.

Welcome to the boards!

what? you're complaining that they started the book with everyone knowing each other? Its based off of D&D. thats generally how things happen. And besides, if you read more than a chapter into the book, you'll see that its all explained.

Newbie forum? Why?

There is six novels called the meetings sextet (I think) which detail how the Heroes all met each other in various stages of their lives and also (from memory) what some of them did during their 5 year hiatus from each other.
