Sahuagin

Actually, there's no problem with sahuagin. Krynn's oceans have communities of them, along with merrows (yrasda), koalinths, locathahs, tritons, merfolk, etc. Those are some big oceans.

Hmm, since Sahuagin exist on Krynn, do Malenti also exist? If they do, would these sea elf look-alikes have a limited ability to polymorph similar to Dargonesti/Dimernesti?

Now that we know what doesn't exist, what monsters are so rare that you will probably won't see them?

I'm guessing:

Areana (sp? intelligent spiders)
Acaths
Beholders
Digesters
Ettercaps
Giants (Fire, Frost, Cloud, Storm)
Mind Flayers
Rast
Tarrasque
Worg
Xorn
Yuanti (we already have dragonspawn after all)

I'm importing Forest Giants as counterparts to the Ogre Titans eventually in Silvanesti, because I think they're pretty. I like pretty monsters too much. ;)

I haven't seen any references to Sahuagin in DL that I can remember....though I haven't looked over the original modules in years.

However, I do remember that there is a "Dark Elf" variant of the Dargonesti.....they live deeper in the ocean, are more feral, and can polymorph into sharks instead of dolphins.

there are no specific references to sahaguin, but nothing says they arent their either. In general, if it isnt specifically forbidden, its ok.

Actually, there's a note in the last pages of DL6 Dragons of Ice that sahuagin don't exist on Krynn.

Actually, there's a note in the last pages of DL6 Dragons of Ice that sahuagin don't exist on Krynn.

But the more recent DLR: Otherlands (1990), specifically mentions the existence of Sahuagin. On page 69 in the Watermere section, it discusses a field of shipwrecks at the bottom of the sea:

[M]any of the wrecks are populated either by vicious sahuagin, giant slugs, or groups of lacedons, the latter being the reanimated dead bodies of the ships' crews.

Interestingly, this same sourcebook mentions four Dargonesti gods (likely demigods), as their levels are listed as lvl 21 cleric, level 20 mage, level 22 cleric, and level 24 thief (2nd edition stats, of course). It also mentions the Mahkwahb (the evil sea elves Banshee pointed out).

Fire, Frost, and Cloud giants are found in Taladas (they're listed on the random encounter tables for the continent).

Yuan-ti wouldn't be such a problem, if you confined them to Taladas (along with the Yaggol).

Vampires and mummies seem to be scarce on Krynn (novel-wise, anyway).

Bingo.

When presented with a race like this, one must consider whether it's serving any purpose to leave it out. Sometimes, yeah - the role may be filled by something else. In this case, the more the merrier.

I know you didn't actually say that they don't exist, but there are vampires on Krynn (Ansalon at least). In the Tales of the Lance boxed set, it states that Tika's dad actually had a run in with a vampire. The two had it out, her dad disappeared and the vampire was found floating in a river, or something like that.
