Hey...could someone explain the difference to me between:

Longsword, MW

-and-

Longsword, +1

Thanks!

A +1 longsword is a magically enchanted item and adds plus 1 to attack and 1 to damage. MW simply means its made incredibly well (usually dwarven or what not) and adds +1 to attack rolls, but not damage rolls. All magical items must be masterwork before they can have enchantment bonuses placed on them.

Yep, but I can't see a difference between a Shield, MW and a Shield +1 ...
I think in that case it would be better to have a MW :-)
then the magic vestment can be cast on it (if I'm correct)

A masterwork shield has an armor check penalty one less than a normal shield. For light shields (wooden or steel) this eliminates the armor check penalty, and for heavy shields it reduces it to -1.

A magical shield not only has the qualities of a masterwork shield, it provides an enhancement bonus to AC.

Armor works the same way as shields do. It reduces armor check penalty, but doesn't give any additional AC bonus.

Masterwork weapons provide a +1 bonus to attack rolls, but not damage rolls, and are non-magical. Magical weapons are also masterwork weapons, but the bonus to attack rolls from being a masterwork weapon doesn't stack with that provided by the weapon's magical bonus. However, if your character's in an anti-magic field, his weapon's still a masterwork weapon and therefore has a +1 bonus to attack rolls.

Thanks guys!

That's kinda what I was thinking...but I wasn't sure if I was reading that paragraph from the PHB just right. This makes it alot clearer.

just a final note:

a +1 longsword can beat damage reduction ?/+1, because it is magical.
a masterworked longsword cannot.

A minor point, but in 3.5 parlance, that'd be DR x/magic.

Correct, and therefore immediately obvious to those who held a (non-magical) masterwork sword that they weren't going to get through the damage reduction.
