I was playing a 2E game today, in which I play a Wild Mage (for those of you who don't know, a Wild Mage is a normal wizard who's spells sometimes surge into unforseen effects). Anyways, I recently have found a list of 10,000 random magical effects on the Internet, and asked my DM if I could use it for my Wild Surges. He said "alright", so I printed off the dozen or more pages and brought them to game night. I hadn't gotten a chance to use it until the very end of the game. My party was traveling to another country on a boat when it was attacked by dwarven pirates (I think they were dwarves). Their boat had a large steel spike on the front, made to ram other ships. I had to stop it somehow, since our ship could not get out of the way soon enough. So, I used a Reckless Dweomer spell (duplicates any spell known, but high chance of a wild surge) and got a wild surge. So, I rolled d10000 (4d10, first is first digit, second is second digit, etc. Four 0's is 10000). I rolled 0, 4, 0, 7 for 0407. I was looking through the pages to see what happened when the DM asked to see the result first, which is perfectly reasonable. He scanned through until he found it, then a wide smile crossed his face. He asked to see my character sheet. "Are you going to rip it up?" I asked. He just took it and set it down behind his screen. "Kiss your character good-bye," he said. He handed me the sheet with 0407 on it, and I scanned down the numbers. I burst out laughing. I handed it to another player (who was very drunk at the time), who squinted at it and almost coughed up a lung in laughter and astonishment. He handed it to the other player, who also followed suit. The result of the single wild surge I had gotten the whole game was: "Caster becomes a God; remove from game immediately." My character, a paltry level 3 human wild mage, rose upon the wings of god-hood into the heavens, to take his place among the gods. I had a 1 in 10000 chance of getting that result, and out of the only roll I made, I was that. We were all amazed, so amazed that we actually ended the game right there (also influenced by the fact that one player was exceedingly drunk). That is my first character to become a god. And he was only level 3! -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 2] Author : Malaki, Cabal Necromancer Date : 08-24-03 04:11 AM lol, thats quite funny. Through all my years of dming I have never seen something that strange happen (but I have never DM'd a player with a wild mage). Is your DM letting you make a new character? -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 3] Author : Algolei Date : 08-24-03 05:09 AM Is he gonna force ya to play a god? ;) -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 4] Author : SpellMaster Date : 08-24-03 12:28 PM No, I get a completely new character. The wild mage is removed from the game, probably never even making new appearances even. It won't really have that much effect on the game world except that maybe in a few hundred years there will be clerics worshipping the great god of Wild Magic Kith Lanan! I get a fresh new, balanced character with no chance of becoming a god. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 5] Author : Algolei Date : 08-25-03 01:49 AM Was he wearing a hat? Maybe he'll become the god of hats. I remember playing in my friend's game. It was completely the opposite of mine (which should have told me something ;) ). One of the players also ascended into godhood, although not by accident. He just made a deal with the other gods. And, hey, I just noticed you guys are up in Thompson! How are the stores in your neck of the woods? Any difficulty buying D&D stuff? I haven't been in Thompson in years and years and years.... -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 9] Author : Moriar2k3 Date : 08-26-03 09:16 AM Originally posted by Algolei What Malaki said. We get some of the best prices around for GW stuff. He also has racks of DnD stuff, which is usually enough to get me what I want. Have you lived here at one point? Or have you just visited? -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 11] Author : Algolei Date : 08-27-03 01:55 AM My...relatives of some kind live in Thompson. Duh...aunt? I think it's my aunt, and my cousins (who come to think of it are married by now and probably have moved away). I used to visit every couple of years, but that was ages and ages and ages ago. It's been my experience that smaller cities and towns have lower RPG prices than Winnipeg. Why is that? -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Downloaded from Wizards Community (http://forums.gleemax.com) at 05-10-08 08:18 AM.
