I thought it a good idea to have a forum where the various characters of Greyhawk could be debated and discussed. Anyone's fair game, though I suppose previously-published characters would allow for the widest participation. Anyway, there you go.

Okay, I'll bite. Let's discuss Dame Gold. I was running a very pre-war, even pre-original boxed set campaign using the Scourge of the Slavelords super module. Dame Gold had been courted by a pseudo-noble from the Pomarj claiming to have located the Vale of Esmerin. As a courtship gift, he gave her the Star of Celene. Though she fancied him, she thought him a little hot-headed, so she told him she would only marry him if he converted to one of the gods of light (i.e., Pelor, Heironeous, St. Cuthbert, or Pholtus), but he would not, and he disappeared back into the Pomarj. Dame Gold grew sad, for she really did love him, and she put the Star away in a vault in Greyhawk City, to hold against the day that her love returned to her.

I used the rumor of her holding the Star of Celene as a catalyst to get the PC group (all elves bent on "rescuing" elven magic from the youngling human race) over to Windy Crag for the beggining of the adventure.

That angry x-lover of hers bought her from the slavers, when he found out she had been taken (indeed, he may have been responsible for the raid on Windy Crag) and it was from him that PCs later had to rescue her. It was because she got abducted before she could disclose the location of the Star of Celene that the party eventually put an end to the first Slavers activities.

I developed this background story to explain why such a worthy lady never married and had children. Dame Gold later went on to become patron of a group calling themselves the Emancipators, whose purpose was to free all slaves. (That's what happens when the PCs get taken as slaves aboard the Ghoul!)

What have other people made of Dame Gold in their campaigns?
