In the box set Tales of the Lance there is a large map of Ansalon. On this map just above the island of Saifhum in the Northern Courrain Ocean there is a heading that reads (– World Spine – “The Wall of China”). Does anyone know what the hell that’s about? I always wanted to ask. On a side note, the little white dots that represent “mystical sites” always drove me nuts, made me want to search the map for other oddities.

Yeah, that is pretty weird.

I've never noticed that before Baron, Good eyes!

It might mean it can be seen from space, like the Great Barrier Reef (except a mountain range) or something like that...

Or maybe it is just a great ancient wall created by the Irda since above that on the map it mentions 'The Swrod' as an Irda colossus beneath the waves

How perculiar. I never noticed that before.

I'd guess its possibly meant to be a ruined wall left over from Istar as it does go onland at one point.

I was wondering about that, too. I also think there's a 'Pyramids' section somewhere, and other mention of real world Wonders.

My best guess is that that's a way to help you picture them - Like maybe the World Spine is like the Wall of China. Why? I have no damn clue. Sorry.

The map in Tales of the Lance apparently included on it some guidelines or symbols that weren't meant to be left on the final draft, so it's more or less a really pretty mock-up that managed to get printed. It's unfinished, in other words, so if you see anything weird on it that's probably why.

Cheers,
Cam

Man, I love this old map! It has so many cool things on it. I find new stuff all the time. I can't believe I've never seen that.. well wait a minute yes I can. I also love all the mystical sites and just plain wierd names. I think all of it should be included in the new map as well. It' hate to lose any of those locations.

Just for the record, the great wall of china cannot be seen from space. It's what.....30 feet wide? Doesn't matter how long it is, you can't see it.

This is an enduring urban legend that spacefarers have denounced a few times.

Yeah, I love all those little sites on the old map, You can occasionally find refrences to a lot of them through the novels... And yes, I think the world spine was a huge wall... I thought there was a refrence to it somewhere...

Well you could if the weather was on your side and you had a telescope.

Yeah if you had a telescope or a big camera with a good zoom lense, and the weather was clear, and the space ship you were in wasn't tumbling a lot or whatever it does in space, I'm sure you could see the Great Wall of China. So why do you say you can't see it in space? I think thats kind of biased! What do you have against the Great Wall?! What has it ever done to you?! That poor wall has been beaten on, kicked at, and maybe even yelled at, and then you come along and say it can't be seen from space!! Hold your head in shame!!! How dare you pick on the Great Wall?!
