I have a question about the hulking brute feat in the DLCS. Does this feat only count for overruning and bull rushing opponents? Are their any onther situation where this feat applies? I'm a little confused about how it's written. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I give my players a bonus to intimidate skills when they are using it in a roleplaying sense as well. I figure that the Minotaur, or whatever the creature is, is actively using the feat to gain the information.

If the player declairs that they are using the feat at the start of combat then I have the enemies make a morale check to see if the "brute" scares them off.

I have a player who has taken this feat for his character, and I agreed that it should add to Intimidate.

The feat is designed to allow half-ogres and minotaurs, who are Medium sized, to be treated as Large creatures when this is to their advantage.

Large creatures gain a +4 bonus to grapple checks when involved in a grapple, for instance. They're also harder to bullrush or overrun, they may be too large for some creatures to swallow or grab with their improved grab and swallow whole attacks, etc. The size bonus doesn't apply when it wouldn't help the character, so the minotaur or half-ogre doesn't get the -1 to attacks and AC that Large creatures have, nor do weapons and armor cost more, etc.

It's an excellent feat if you're going for the bruiser type. Since half-ogres and minotaurs are so strong to begin with, adding additional bonuses to these Strength-related checks makes them powerful opponents.

Cheers,
Cam

I understand now! So anytime being large is a benefit the character is treated as large.

Thank you, Cam.

Now with this understanding the feat makes perfect sense. I have no idea what I was confused about.

Would it also apply to minotaur or half-ogre characters who want to use larger weapons in one hand?

No. According to the feat's description it says that it applies to opposed rolls where size makes a difference.

So would it then apply to the bonus to intimidate a smaller opponent?

But then again, could you not argue that size makes a difference in a lot more things than just strength and other physical based rolls?

Like I stated about giving the minitoaur a synergy bonus to intimidate through the feat, because I would be terrified to round a dark corner and see a minotaur hulking over me.

Does this feet only aply to Half-ogres and Minotaurs? What about a Baaz which is listed as being a medium sized creature.

Yes, thats how I read it.

I wouldn't allow the feat to just give an arbitary bonus to intimidate... but a character does get a bonus to his intimidate roll of +4 for each size catagoery smaller the intimidatee is compared to the intimidator.

Hence, my question before.
