Id just like to say that im quite impressed with the new DLCS, having been a fan of Krynn for over ten years now i was looking forward to a FR style book done for 3.5.

I'm so glad that very few heroes were given stats and abilities, the best way to include the heroes of the lance in any campaign is to leave their abilities aloof as they are in the novels. The last thing anyone wants is to look at Raistlins or Caramons stats and see that they could defeat them easily at a comparative level, just like everyone else did with Drizzt when the FR book came out.
Heroes should stay in the fiction and used very sparingly as NPC's

As for items im glad that very few were covered in the book, because the last thing you want are the players running around with honours face (Kaz's axe), or the brightblade, because thats just too cheesy. The staff of Magius is what impressed me the most with only a few small set abilities, it gives the DM more power in deciding just how powerful it should be at the time.

The fact that WOTC are to be releasing era specific suppliments pleases me greatly as well, i can't wait for the war of the lance suppliment to be released. The fact that the tapestry of the DL world is so large and there are quite a lot of novels covering the major ages, it pleases me that they didn't try to cram it into one book.

Actually, Sovereign Press will be publishing them. Only the DLCS was published by WotC, but even that book was done by Sovereign Press.

Wow. There have been so many gripes about lack of NPC stats and magic items and whatnot on this board that your post comes off as quite refreshing.

Calling Elminster a wuss is like calling Malys a wuss, because they've got the same Challenge Rating!

Hehehe, I don't think that Elminister is a wuss but I have seen that statement time and time again on the FR boards.

I find it funny that people make a lvl 25 charachter then they think they are superior to others of that lvl. Only one friend of mine has played a charachter up to that lvl. My self I have played up to lvl 15 from lvl 1 which is still something that Im proud of but it is a far cry from the big mage.

I agree, 35 is something that should be respected regardless of what class or how others think. Maybe people don't like his personality, and that is why they say he is a wussy. I hate forgoten realms, but even I wouldn't bad mouth Elminister.

I played a character from 1 to 23, and he was powerful, but I still could not really touch a lvl 35.

Is there an "Elminsterbane lance" that she can use? Cause it took the dragonlance equivilant, and a massive undead dragon mount to take down Malys.

Tyralion -

Ditto, man. You said it beautifully, and as others have said before - Quite refreshing to hear it. I feel like I'm wasting space in saying that, but - Wow, you hit the nail on the head, so to speak. My sentiments exactly.

Im quite happy that the DL boards aren't filled with angry hate filled 12 year olds.

It's good to see that there are still people posting that can appreciate a good point instead of bickering like a bunch of spoilt children.

Thanks everyone, I'll be sure to keep on posting now that I know those reading it aren't immature or petty. :D

Quite the contrary, I think.

It seems, for the most part, that we're just a bunch of old fuddy duddies that occasionally whine like 12 year olds. ;)

Seriously though, I think it's a pretty even mix of people, ages, and cultures.

She's in the Age of Mortals book, along with Brine, Sable and Khellendros.

I swear, if one more person forgets to "replace the 'y' with 'i' and add an 'es'" I'm going to cry!

Sorry, Insta, but you've opened the flood gates now that I've noticed your grammer. :P

Just messin' with ya.

Are you asking what I was talking about?

Oh...I was just quoting an old grade school mnemonic device about how to pluralyze a word that ends with the letter "y." It was dorky, I know. So sue me. :D

Hmmmm it comes up on dictionary.com lol

And you said and and ;)

But on a serious note, Does Malys's Face/Reach seem a little small ? I mean 40/30 ?

Sep 08, 2003 15:38:13
Malys has a greater reach than most other creatures! In D&D terms, she's incredibly dangerous and will probably eliminate anything that tries to close range with her for melee. I wouldn't call that a little small.

Cam

Hmmmm I thought she was 300 feet long or so. The reach thing is not so bad it is the space thing that just seems off to me. Oh well she is dead so it's not like it matters.

Sep 08, 2003 15:44:02
Well, space/face is squares in 3.5. So she's a 40ft. by 40 ft square (8 squares each way on a grid) and that's considering she is coiled up/ready to spring/etc.

Well...not really. You type in "crys" and it recognizes that you mean "cries." But there is not actual entry for "crys."

Oh...and the "and and" thing doesn't count...that was a typo, the second "and" should have been "add." heh heh

As for the face reach thing...

Well...a 30 foot reach...I'd say that's pretty damn big. Considereding that's Missle Attack range for most other characters...and she can hit you with a swipe of her claw, twice, a bite, a wing buffet, and a tail sweep...all in one attack...and all you can do from that range his shoot an arrow at her.

Naw, all the whiny dragonlance flamers are over on the ENWorld boards for dragonlance....... there are SO many flames against SovPress and Dragonlance 3e i don't even bother looking there anymore. Most of the complaints are unmitigated as well.
