Since its inception Dragonlance has been a world of romance and high adventure. The up coming Book of Erotic Fantasy by Valor Project seems a natural companion to Ansalon. The elves are very sensual individuals, Plainsmen have mating rites, Quindaras is a city of delights, and Solamnics probably have strict marital vows. Enchanters can add a whole new repertoire of interesting spells in their spell books. I think the Book of Erotic Fantasy can add an interesting layer to any existing Dragonlance campaign. Of course, the players would have to be mature enough to handle the content without turning it into silly slapstick, or worse, a perverse offensive game for everyone. What do you folks think?

that seems to be the party line towed by valar. Frankly, i'd rather follow tracy and margaret and say that the boef has no place in my game.

The BoEF is being really slated on a lot of boards I've read lately. Some people claim its verging onf D&D Pornography.

And due to the recent changes/additions to the OGL license, its having to be released without a D20 logo.

I think that's about as interesting a layer to add to my Dragonlance campaign as the layer which deals with how the peoples of Ansalon handle their daily ablutions. That is to say, not very much.

The Book of Erotic Fantasy is, despite the dubious high aims of its publishers, probably going to end up being picked up by the lusty college-age male audience for the dirty pictures and avoided by the book's intended audience primarily because it's something that audience already knows how to handle.

It's like the Book of Vile Darkness. I already know how to put scary things into my campaign, and so do many other people with the maturity to handle it. That book's major (and likely unintended) audience are folks who're after the kewl evil anti-paladin demonic bastard classes and the nipple clamps.

Cheers,
Cam

That's likely what's going to happen Cams. And while many of us know how to deal with the subject matter just like we know how to add horror to our campaign the book may still proof useful. I put the Book of Vile Darkness to good use in Nightlund. The rules for "evil" weather was very interesting and Vile Damage added a layer of terror to the players they had never felt before. Imagine reseaving wounds so terrible they can only heal while resting in a holy place. I agree a lot of people are going to buy the book for the illustrations in the book, but for what I've seen they are tastefully done, making it no different than those of us who appreciate artists like Lois Royo.

I remember once downloading a book with rules for sex for the game. I read bits of it and it was lots of fun and most of those things added some more reality to the game :P

I'm glad something like that is going to be available. I just hope the book is done professionally. Regardless of who might pick it up, if done right it can be useful for those who want/need ideas on how to run the grittier aspects of the stories. Since sex and surrounding elements have a place in many cultures, it does give another angle from which to come to understand above said cultures. If the more childish component of the RP world wishes to pick it up, from my standpoint, at least they are boosting the sales encouraging the existance of the book for a longer period of time.

I wish the BoVD was done better, but I am glad that someone made the attempt. Same thing with the BoEF as I said before; I hope it is done in proper detail, I hope it does not shy away from elements in order to tone down things, and I hope it is done professionally.

The Netbook of Sex (Guide to Unlawful Carnal Knowledge) was a well done document for 2nd edition. I look forward to seeing a 3rd edition version of it. I don't know if that is what the BoEF is aiming for, but I guess I can hope.

I remember that book. Here’s my take on that. How many of you have had to deal with the gamer that always plays a character with a CHA 18 and tries to get away with murder? Because either, A) His character is so damn charming the Duke of Throlt would grant him anything or B) He claims his characters prowess in the bedroom is so great that the Duchess of Kharolis will whisper to him the entire kingdom’s secrets! With this book that player will have to invest actual skill points and Feats if he’s really interested in playing such a renowned Casanova. It’s true that we are all free to use an extra Ability for Appearance, but the book has already done all the work for us, like what precise checks Appearance is good for and so on. Like all gaming aids the book is not meant to take over your game and turn it into a perverse activity, but to enhance certain parts of play. Just like the Book of Vile Darkness was not intended for you to have your campaign overrun with the Demon Dukes of the Nine Hells.
