I recall being the victim of a spell or a spell like ability in 2nd edition that if you made the save instead of death it turned the bones in a limb to a jelly like substance.  The perpetraitor was a fang dragon Drracolich in a high level living city Rpga event.

I would love to convert it to 3rd if it hasn't been yet.

I'd say the spell you're looking for is The Simbul's Skeletal Deliquescence.  it's an 8th level wizard spell, u can find it on page 99 of TSR 9475: the seven sisters. Probably in other places as well.

Yep thats the one.  I see They changed the save from only hits one limb to negates it was scarier in 2nd Ed.  Its now in Magic of and Players guide to Faerun.
