In the dlcs is says it cost 500gp to make and in the AoM is says 500 stl. So which is it ? I am guessing it costs 500stl to make.

I know this thread is almost two months old but I seemed to remember it being here so I thought I'd drop my comment here instead of creating a new topic.

Are we sure the paint costs the 500stl to make? That seems a bit high for me. It's good but it's very limited and EVERY brute you ever saw had this paint on in every battle (I won't assume they wore it all the time but they at least had enough for all of them for each major battle). Doesn't it seem a tad odd that each of these barbarians could find 500stl every time they needed to go into battle? They couldn't have been getting paid, pillaging, etc, all THAT much! If you go by the fluff, your Tarmak PC wouldn't make the paint for anyone else so there is no danger of him just passing out around all the time. And even if used for every encounter it will only help him or her for the first few rounds. So, anyway, do we know for sure it's supposed to be 500stl over gold? Probably so, knowing the high cost of everything else in the D&D game.

well, that's just to buy it. every tarmak makes their own, and under Crafting rules, it'll cost 1/3 it's market price, which'll be... about.... 167 stl. Not terribly much.

It's also a game balance thing. Having copious amounts of war paint on hand because you went to an alchemist and had it whipped up for a cheap price would reduce the usefulness of other alchemical or magical items.

Does the paint work on anyone or only on Brutes? How many times can one person use the quantity crafted?

I think it's a pretty fair bet that wherever it mentions "gp" in the DLCS for an item price or creation cost, or spell components, that you should always use "stl" when in the correct land/Age.

I agree that they probably meant stl but it still seems way overpriced to me. It does work for everyone of course but I doubt the brutes would allow anyone else to use it (much less learn how to) so you won't have people buying and selling it all over the place. And, as I recall, the AoM says that's what it costs to MAKE the stuff, not buy it. But I could be wrong there...I'll check later. Anyway, thanks for the thoughts.
