"Are sorcerers considered renegades by the Wizards of High Sorcery?
According to Margaret Weis, sorcerers are considered renegades"
(FAQ)

"Those (wizards) who seek to gain power without obeying the laws of the order commit themselves to the dangerous life of a renegade mage." (DLCS)

"Some inquisitors specialize in certain areas, such as WoHS trained to ferret out and hunt down renegades [...]"

QUESTION:
Does that mean, every Sorcerer must be frightened to simply be killed by anyone?

Not as long as there are laws and government in place.

Can you just see the Knights of Solamnia just standing back and letting people who have been peacefully practicing their craft for the past two decades?

*feels a tap on his shoulder*

uh... Hogan Bight is here, and we would like to say that they would, given that the Knights of Solamnia have degenerated into a bunch of dishonourable curs. Man, that's just harsh Hogan.

Hogan's experiences aside, Sorcerers will have allies of their own, and they are protected by the rule of Law. Mages of High Sorcery do not have carte blanche to running around indescrimately killing people as if they are playing a game of "Vice City".

And there are not that many WoHS. In fact, the WoHS will be horribley outnumbered by the Sorcerers. If the Sorcerers decide to preemptively strik then the WoHS are going to be in trouble. Now, the Chaotic Sorcerer's probably won't create a really big overreaching organization to rule them all (out of the frying pan, into the fire) but they may create cabals of Sorcerers who persecute the Wizards. In fact, my PCs are going to run into a group like that.

I think that the Wizards of High Sorcery will look at Sorcerers on a case by case basis, not just labelling them all "renegade". At least at first they will be forced to, since the Sorcerers out number them. But they will probably be the first group to jump down the throat of any sorcerer abusing the power of magic.

I think in the end, the WoHS will probably end up treating sorcerers like bards- bards do not need to be members of the Orders, yet according to the DLCS, they practice "godly magic", not primal sorcery. Either that, or they will create a special sub-order of sorcerers, probably based off of Palin's Academy Sorcerer.

I think an organization running sorcery will eventual;ly be founded and propbably headed by Palin since he spurned the high sorcery...

Palin did not SPURN High Sorcery. Palin refused the magic. All of the magic. As far as that lat book, he will never cast a spell again. Of course, that's just what he thinks, who knows what could drag a poor Caster out of retirement.

I think they have eluded to that in the AoM now.

Hm, where?

not doubting you, I missed that part in my reading I guess. I wouldn't doubt it, with High Sorcery about to make a resurgence and Wild Sorcery being one of the prime targets for assimilation, the wise and noble Palin may indeed help. It seems even mor elikely after that thought by Dalamar in the last WoS book where he thinks that he'll never see Palin again.

In the last part of his character bio it says that current events have interrupted his quiet life. To me it means that my favorite Majere may see the spotlight again. Magic isn't something you can give up. Most of the former wizards during the WoS went through a withdrawl that was pretty similar to much the same thing as if they were trying to quit cocaine cold turkey. Palin will most likely end up using magic again.

Personally, I think he's a scion... he just doesn't realize it yet.

He will be great in the art, the greatest that ever lived....

Well, one would imagine that the WoHS have to establish themselves again before they can go persecuting anybody.

And it shouldn't be an over night process to do that.
