The Future of the Knights of Solamnia

Lets see. They lost Palanthas, High Clerist Tower, half of Solamnia itself and now they've lost Solanthas, their capital, and haven't been able to get it back because the non-knighthood leadership doesn't want them back, and Kalaman, Lemish and Coastlund may follow its example. Maybe the people of Solamnia are tired with the feudal semi-military dictatorship of the Knighthood. The minotaur threat and a possibly renewed rivalry with Ergoth maybe what it takes to cause the knighthood to weaver, crack and perhapes break. Their just a little better of then the Knights of Neraka which has also lost its God and their traditional allies and are hated by, well everybody.
Unless a King of Solamnia appears, the future of the knighthood, as well as Solamnia as a whole is uncertain.

That was a statement right? Was it for our benefit?

To be honest, I am frustrated with a lot of the affiliations in Dragonlance... except for the Knights of Neraka and the Minotaurs.

The Knights of Solamnia have pompous and ineffective leadership (or so it seems). I can count the true Knights of Solamnia on one hand: Sturm and Gegard... And maybe the head of the Crown Knights. The Higher Rose Knights seem more interested in legistics and negociating their way to the top ranks.

The Wizards of High Sorcery... Sorcery? no way... maybe I am just bias towards true Sorcerers... enough said.

But I like the Knights of Neraka. They may have had a money hungry guy for a leader (until Mina dispatched him... so sad), but he got the job done. He wanted more money. He wanted the Dragon Overlords to not fry, freeze, shock, burn, and eat him. He had a full plate to deal with. Now I am sad to say that the Knights of Neraka might shatter into a bunch of mercenary units...

Also, after Takhisis died, wouldn't all the Knights of the Skull and Thorn have to be Mystics and Sorcerers respectively? I can't see Nuitari would provide Wizard magic to the Thorn Knights with Takhisis no longer breathing down his back.

And as for the Skull Knights... what god can they worship? would another god take them in? Probably not. And most of their abilities are divine in origin (or from the "heart" in the case of mystics).

DaemonAngel - Not so far from the truth, methinks. There was talk about a king of Solamnia at GenCon this year.

Actually, this went into effect after the Chaos War, after the Knights of Neraka gained knowledge of the secrets of mysticism and sorcery. Takhisis was weak after stealing the world, and I doubt she was giving any energies to her followers.

My theory on Takhisis and Thorn Knights is that she stole arcane magic from the gods of magic, although she could have possibly granted arcane magic on her own.

At this time, all Thorn Knights are sorcerers and all Skull Knights are mystics. With the return of the gods, this may eventually change.

Sargonnas is a great candidate, IMO. Chemosh may be interested in the necromancers of the Skull Knights. Beyond that, I doubt any of the other gods are interested. Nuitari won't even bother with the Thorn Knights, as he is patron of the Black Robes.

The likely scenario, IMO, is that Skull Knights will remain mystics. They've been burned by Takhisis before. How can they trust other gods?

The future will be an interesting one indeed!

A King would be an excellent idea for Solamnia, because it would lead to conflict not stability. After all, I simply cannot accept that the Knights and the Solamnics would turn their backs on thousands of years of republicanism without a huge civil war.

As for the Knights of the Skull, I think they are less than likely to adopt a new patron diety. I'm sure that many gods would like to become their new patron, Mina hates them all because they betrayed and killed her Queen. What Mina hates, her followers will hate... or else.
