What are the heavens like for dead evil people?

Okay take these two examples..

1.)Knight of the Rose....He fights his whole life on the side of good, worshipping Paladine, doing good wherever he goes, marries 1 woman, has 5 children, 3 grow up to be Knights, 2 to be good farmers whatever.. Well the nation is thrown in turmoil, an evil force of the knights of Takhisis attacks the city , and the Knight of Rose stands up and fights to protect his city , people, and goodness. Well he's slain in battle. Dead. Caput. Now his soul travels to the heavens to stand beside Paladine for eternity, Huma i suppose is a good example. Paladine is proud of this mortal, and keeps him up in the heavens forever..

2.) Evil knight of Tahkisis. He fights for the side of darkness with morals, and lawness, but is fighting for evil. He serves his queen very well, becomes and powerful being, and does whatever is commanded of him like a good knight, Ariakas i suppose would be a good example. Well in the same battle up above, THIS one is slain as well. He dies, he goes to.....the abyss? I mean common! FOr serving your queen for decades and doing a damn good job at it, you'd think the Abyss would be a little disconcerting when he arrives.

So my questions is.. When a devote follower of an evil god dies, are the sent to a hellish like afterlife to suffer, or do they stand with their god in that gods respective realm. If if the latter is right, wouldn't the abyss be a rather boring and horrible place to spend eternity (assuming this devoted follower worshipped Tahkisis)? THe afterlife for these people sucks..... Or not? What do you think?

Originally those of evil alignment where lucky if they become larvae in the pits of the Abyss after they died. I don’t think those who serve the Darkness realize that their dark deities are not going to reward them in the afterlife. I would make an exception for extremely loyal servants like the dedicated Knights of Takhisis.

"Those who turned their backs on the High God [i.e., turned to Evil], though, cast themselves into the Abyss, tormented by the wickedness they embraced in life. More than that cannot be said, for some things must be left to faith"--Valthonis, "Report on the Order of Creation and the Progression of Souls", _Dragons of a Vanished Moon_ (hardcover edition), unedited final draft.

I'm betting for a while souls pay some kind of penitence int he afterlife. To keep with the normal system of belief, etc. established by Planescape and kept up by the new 3e Material for DnD I propose this plan:

The vast majority of people die and pass on. Their souls float down the River of Souls and off to parts unknown. But this isn't necessarily true for two groups; the extremely evil or the extremely good.

The extremely evil die and pass on into the afterlife. Their souls are netted by the Abyss and they are drawn forth as larvae. Larvae are used for many things but in the end, for the particular soecial larvae it is possible to be promoted to a lesser kind of fiend. A powerful enough evil person could rise quickly through the ranks becoming a powerful fiend and aid to their god.

The extremely good become petitioners. Now these petitioners may stay in the heavens and live with their gods and if they are good enough, may be promoted to lesser types of Celestials. As fiends, they can move through the ranks to become more and more important to their god or goddess.

Now on these paths I propose that the spirit eventually moves on. After so many eons of aiding their god the Fiends and Celestials finally remove themselves from Krynn, following the other souls down the mighty river in the ethereal sea.
