This may already be a thread, but my friend and I have a bet going. Have there ever been any kender wizards? If not could someone lend me five bucks?

Of course there are (and have been) kender wizards. If the magic that one is innately gifted with is not allowed to be expressed, the person is driven insane. The conclave would not be so stupid as to not allow for kender mages. After all, kender within the conclaves of high sorcery may be trouble, but an insane kender renegade is just bad news all 'round.

The illustrious Sean Macdonald has done an article on kender wizards and sorcerers, in the current issue of the Tobril which can be found here: http://www.dragonlance.com/tobril/

As well, Dragonlance is in 3e, and every race can take every class in third edition.

But if these arguments don't convince him, show him this concept art. Isn't the red robe the best thing ever?

Nice pictures, but neither looks like a kender. The first one looks like an elf, and the second one is definately a gnome.

I'm pretty sure an afflicted kender would make a rather good wizard, but a "normal" kender would be a disaster waiting to happen.

Should a "normal" kender ever become a wizard they wouldn't be very good at it since they lack focus, but the one in a thousand that does have focus is going to be a sight to behold.

I like those pictures for Kender. There are never any good pictures of the kender in books. If you want to know ANYTHING about Kender download the Kencyclopedia. It has a whole thing about Kender Wizards and their history. It also has good pictures of Kender of every class.

Technically, there are no kender wizards on Krynn. I think the DLCS mentions this, although I can't remember off-hand.

Plenty of unofficial sources has materials for kender wizards, and I think the Kencyclopedia materials are among the best.

If you want to incorporate kender wizards in your game, I wrote an article on the subject.

So, you want to play a kender wizard?

The mere thought of a Kender Wizard scares me.

I always believed that the world would be destroyed faster than even the Gods could manage if just a few Kender learned Magic. Sorcerer and Wizard is the one class I will never allow to a Kender.

Who si the artist of those pictures, Kip? I have been extremely impressed by the art in the Kencyclopedia. The pictures of Kender usually look like the stereotypical Tas clones or little comic reliefs. The Kencyclopedia pictures make Kender actually appear to be a viable race of beings.

The artist is Naomi Nemes and I actually haven't spoken to her for a year since she did them. She's really talented... I need to contact her and see how she's doing.

speaking of the Kendercyclopedia, are you gonna do a revision to it since the official Dragonlance 3e is out now (as well as the fact it uses D&D 3.5 exclusive), Kipper? Not that the kendercyclopedia isn't awesome, just curious.

First off, the Kencyclopedia is completely awesome. Second off, the art is completely awesome. Third is a question: is there any chance of a "Kender Art Gallery," a gallery of art dedicated to Kender? I think that would be fairly cool. Thanks.

I think you're imagining things Trampas. Even if you are not, that will likely become a something even more universally ignored than "Paladins can't multiclass".

Look under the WoHS prestige class, where it talks about races. It mentions that no kender has ever taken the Test of High Sorcery. It does not say that kender are prohibited, though.

Now, there may be low-level kender wizards who are dabblers.

And you're absolutely right, Terry. There have been, and always will be, players who play kender mages. Previous editions of the game said you couldn't be a kender mage, yet I think that makes the option so much more enticing, since it is "forbidden".

Nothing wrong with playing a kender mage, so long as it doesn't cause problems with the group and you're having fun.

There was a Kender wizard named Kundor, who created an book called Kundor's Book of Many Things.... I think his symbol was a feathered dragon or something like that....

The debate of the Kender Wizard is an old one from the yee old editions. I know the relatively official "Kender can't be wizards" rule has been around for a long time, but circumstances have changed in-story. However for the first time we now have Afflicted Kender (in mass amounts) existing with the Wizards of High Sorcery.

I'm of the firm belief that at some point we will see an official recognition of the existance of an afflicted kender wizard; possibly renegade if the tower leadership doesn't consider the option for a kender mage (afflicted or not). But then again, it may be their only other option (other than extermination) in order to deal with possible Sorcerer kender that exist.

Also consider that all races can be all base classes. So a kender wizard is definitely possible. A kender WoHS on the other hand...???

Personally I think normal kender wizards could exist in any age. I mean seriously, what mage would want to hunt them down?

White Robes would try to invite them into the order, and they would rather duel a dragon in their underwear.

Red Robes would invite or kill, but again, same for the invitation above, and killing would be hard because kender are slippery little devils, I mean, how the heck would you even find a kender that had magic and didn't want to be found?!

Black Robes, most kender would probably want to be a black robe, and would stick so close to them, that they would loose all their spell components, wouldn't be able to kill them, and would run away in terror and end their life in a high padded room in the tower of wayreth.

Rosisha, who finds the above pretty funny to think about!

Who could? A non-magical Kender is already a pain in the tucus to hunt down. A magic using one? Ewwwwww.

That is so true, and so very very funny. Personally, I think a highly trained magic using Kender would be akin to a Gnome with the intention of actually making a war weapon. Disastrous for any unfortunate soul anywhere near them. Funny, but so tragic...

Dunno... Closest thing I got in my campaign is a kender bard.... Kenders with mass illusion spells..... my wife's already frightened me with the possiblities her character has.
