Just got the DLCS book today. Something makes no sense to me though. It keeps saying that races have, for example, Level adjustment +1 and then it says they have ECL 6. Thats not a direct quote as I dont have the books in front of me

Shouldn't the level adjustment and the ECL be the same?

ECL takes into account monstrous hit die and stuff like that.

Example: Centaur have 4 hit die just for being Centaurs. THey also have a +2 level adjustment. Thus, ECL 6.

Don't forget to add the character level. A 1st level centaur is actually an ECL of 7.

HEck, you don't even have to play them at full power if you got Savage Species, and wanna do monster classes. I plan on making all the draconians into monster classes. just never had the energy to do it yet. It takes a bit of work to do it.

Given the amount of questions regarding ECL//LA this seems to be one area wherein the DLCS explanations really should have been expanded upon.

Not really. They talk about ECL/LA in the new phb, and several times in the DMG. It's a matter of them believing that you've read the core books already.
