LOL, airwalkr. Maybe you had a sympathetic and generous DM for the game module. The computer AI will show no such mercy, apparently.

I downloaded a copy (it still cost $49.99), but I have not had a chance to play it. Maybe this weekend. We'll compare notes. But I don't usually do well at video games.

..it is tough but I love it. Being an old head myself seeing this product on the shelf shocked me. I figured that something wouldn`t be right about it. Like maybe they just used the name and came up with a whole new story or something. It follows the modules almost to a "T". Plus if your lucky enough to own the original module there is no need for a strategy guide. I love this game and only hope that they continue down this line...a few minor fixes and it would be a great series of games. I`d love to see more of the classic stuff done. And one last comment bring back Gygax...now I know this is the real world and all but the guy started it and maintained the compant for years before he was stabbed in the back. Give him what is rightfully his (again I know this is the real world and the rights to Greyhawk are no longer his legally) give Gary Greyhawk if WOTC isn`t going to do anything with it. Darn toy companies..thanks for saving D & D for us ...NOW KEEP YOUR HANDS OFF OF IT! By the game it is awesome.

I remember this module being one of the toughest all time. If DMed properly it's like sending PCs into a meat grinder.

Did your DM run the Nodes? If memory serves we ran into a Family of three White Dragons, a Red Dragon and a Blue Dragon.
We also lost 8 of 10 party members when we went to the Elemental Plane of Water in error. It took basically 4 parties and 2 years of Campaign Time to defeat the Temple. My friends and I still talk about it, and we played the game in 86-87. I would consider that Hard!!!!

In the PnP version we had two complete party wipe outs attempting a smash and grab raid style assault before finally doing enough damage to its plans via sneakiness and attrition to force the leadership to flee and start over.

A certain isolated secret area on lvl 3 was a great base of operations to conduct sneak attacks ;)

So if its true to form it should be extra-tough if you're planning hack n slash

I guess it's just that DMs tend to softball things to a certain extent to keep the campaign from getting bogged down with re-writing characters all the time. Going through the module was tough, and there was death, but not to the degree of dying as a 1st level character 5 times before I get inside the moathouse.

I am not having any problems with it, pick up Elmo as an NPC, he is 4th level, and can be a real boon in the moathouse.

Well, it gets much harder in the temple itself...
Anyway, the computer game is actually easier than the module.
