Did the old DL cosmology use the great wheel? If so on which planes did the gods live? Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

Yes, Dragonlance used the same cosmology shared by all the other realms. The list below is no longer valid since Krynn’s cosmology has been alter, but in 2nd Edition Dragonlance the gods and their planes where as listed.

The Abyss: Chemosh, Hiddukel

Arcadia: Reorx

Baator: Takhisis

Beastlands: Chislev, Habbakuk

Bytopia: Kiri-Jolith

Elysium: Majere, Mishakal

Ethereal: Lunitari, Solinari, Nuitari

Gahenna: Sargonnas

Limbo: Sirrion

Mount Celestia: Paladine

The Outlands: Gilean

Pandemonium: Zeboim

Wandering: Zivilyn

Ysagard: Branchala

I like the new cosmology, so I’m using my own modify version, eliminating what I don’t like and adding what I like and works for my campaign.

P.S: Dragonhelm would this “list” constitute a violation of copyright and Board Terms? I figure it doesn’t since TSR is long dead along with Planescape. If it does I apologies, feel free to remove it or I do so when I log back on.

Why would it? It's not like you posted the planescape manuals. As for the location of the gods. I don't think they would throw out what they put in the 2nd edition monster mythology. I think it will stand as is. I've always wondered what one of the gods would do if an outsider called out their true name?

Nooo, they changed it. The cosmology now fits what the novels have been saying all along.

The Great Wheel was never a good fit for Dragonlance, not if you were a novel reader first and a Gamer second.

Takhisis lives in the Abyss... But wait, no, she lives in Baator. Oh wait, does that make her Tiamat? Most certainly not. But they look alike... no, they're different.

So is Paladine Bahamut then? No. But... No. Oh.

What about the High God, whose He? He is Him. Oh... Wait, what? He is the Allfather, Ah, I gotcha. So he's an Overpower of the Crystal Sphere of Krynn. No. He is everything. Oh....

Planescape and Dragonlance the world as defined by the novels never made much sense. Now the cosmology is different. The three Outer planes are the Dome of Creation, the Hidden Vale, and the Abyss. Three Outer planes one Good, one Neutral, and One.. well the one that isn't good or neutral. This arrangement is only for Krynn. Its as if this "Mini-Multiverse" is built around Krynn. There are signs of a Greater multiverse at large (the world of the great dragons for example) but that multiverse and the multiverse of Krynn do not interact at all.

I like planescape, its a fun setting, I just hope that Dragonlance and Planescape stay seperate.

L33t, read the post, no one is saying that it was not change. We’re talking about how it “used” to be.

The list is cool. Little snidbits like that are absolutely no problem. I just don't want people reprinting large amounts of text word for word (such as the noble class, for example).

What I'm glad about in the new cosmology is that it eliminates the Krynn-Abyss/Wheel-Abyss confusion. I always hated how Krynn's populace were thought of as "backwards" by folks not of Krynn, partially since they didn't understand the greater cosmology.

Personally I prefer the Great Wheel cosmology but to each his own.

As for the Abyss conundrum, I just assume that the inhabitants of Krynn refer to all the lower planes as a single real called the Abyss.

Planescape folks might have refer to Krynn inhabitants as backwater, but I remember reading once that they also acknowledged Knights of Solamnia as the crazies, dumbness, or bravest souls to ever tracked down a demon to the Abyss itself and come back alive from the encounter! You gotta love those persistent Rose Knights…

Rose Knights aside, thanks for the list Baron. I haven't got the Campaign setting yet, so i thought i'd get planes to compare to the new cosmology for when i scrape together enough cash to buy the DLCS
P.S. I hate to be a nag but which plane was Morgion's?

Morgion resided in Hades.
