I'm trying to figure out which of the PS books best describes the factions and what they're all about. I have the Planewalker's Handbook, which does a fair job of describing the philosophies of each faction but I was wondering if there was a more detailed book that I should look into?

The obvious choice is the Factol's Manifesto. It has everything about the factions: history, factol biography, maps of faction headquarters, faction goals, secret dark about the factions, heirarchy, and more. Besides that, www.planewalker.com has some nice, thorough write-ups for all of the factions that will appear in the upcoming 3rd edition conversion for Planescape (except for the Sensates, who are coming). Best of all, it's free. So really, it depends on whether you're willing to spend money and whether or not you're looking for pre-Faction War or post-Faction War information.

I am curious now, having read the information on the Sensates. What did happen to Erin Montgomery? I scoured that page from top to bottom but couldn't find the exact details of her fate. Am I correct in guessing she perished in the War? Or did she come to be lost some other way?

Or is this a deliberate dark on the developers' part?

Mazed. Though of those factols dumped into their own little personal hells in the deep ethereal, she has some of the greatest remaining support, as well as a remaining faction with a still strong base of power within The Cage and without.

That she has such a strong base of power remaining is unsurprising. The section about the Gilded Hall in Planes of Chaos claimed Erin was the most powerful woman in Sigil next to Her Serenity.

So, then, why were the factols mazed?

*smiles sweetly and genuinely*

"Well, with the factions out of the way, next to Her Serenity, it would seem that I've been enthroned as the most powerful woman in all of Sigil."

"Fitting I should think. And don't let that money grubbing, gehreleth faced titan tell you anything otherwise."

"Now as for why the factols were mazed? Well, thats a difficult question to answer, and it could get rather long. I do like to talk however."

"For some of the factol's the answer is obvious in hindsight. For others it seems more obtuse or questionable, and for others still it would seem they simply happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time and got tossed into the mazes simply to be rid of them since The Lady intended to remove the factions from power anyways. Why leave leaders in place as thorns in your side when you're destroying their hold on power in the city anyways."

"Skall for example it seems, unbeknownst to most berks in Sigil, besides myself and a few rare others, had intended in the near future to invade Sigil with an army of the undead. By slaughtering all of Sigil and penning them into the dead book, and converting them to the undead he intended to convert all of the City of Doors to his own faction's belief."

"Her Serenity thought otherwise and powerful blood or not she tossed him into the maze. His follows, as emotionless and passionless as they are don't seem inclined to mount a rescue. Besides, most of them simply think that the old lich has acheived the so called 'true death' and all of that mortal inspired rot."

*rolls eyes*

"You have to handle the mazings on a case by case basis to really understand them. But overall, it was simply a means to an end to stabilize our fair city and drag the factions kicking and screaming from the halls of power."

"The delicious power vacuum of course has been appropriately filled since then, by both those official holders of influence and the unoffcial."

"Ask yourself which of those holds more sway." *demure grin*

The reason some of the factols were mazed was because they weren't dead.

now that all the factions are up on the PS3E site - any chance of bundling them all together for one single download?
