I am going to be running a campaign surrounding the Conclave immediately following the War of Souls. I am looking for input on what people think things will be like for Wizards, and the Conclave in general immediately after the War.

First of all there have been no Wizards for quite a while, so I'm assuming that those that converted to Sorcery will most likely stay with it, having either grown in power through it, or having known nothing but Sorcery in their time.

There will be some Elven Sorcerors of varying power, and some may switch back to Wizardry, some may not.

Most Humans that were ever Wizards will either be dead, or close to death, or vary old, and of little power, (if they didn't convery to Sorcery that is).

I imagine there will be few Wizards in the months following the War of Souls, Dalamar will be attempting to bring the Order together once more, the Towers are lost or locked away, and things for Wizards are generally hectic.

Thoughts?

Flat out... there would be a LOT more Elves than anything else. Like you said most humans would have little power if they were Wizards before the War of Souls.... unless they have an epiphany...

Considering that the Elves have lost all their respective homelands, and the Wizard's being without their towers... They would effectively have NOWHERE to go. With Silvanesti and Quanlinesti gone, most of their spellbooks are probably gone with them. No towers... no homes...

First priority is a base of operations.

If Sorcerers that have no plan of joining the Towers of High Sorcery, and it’s only a matter of time before a new Conclave is born, I say they better smarten up and beat the High Sorcery mages to the punch and rebuilt the Academy of Sorcery in Solace.

They can establish themselves as a law-abiding institution of higher learning with a track record for community services. I like to see the Towers call them “renegades and outlaws” after that.

There were still a few lingering human former Wizards of High Sorcery hanging around the Tower of Wayreth. It will be interesting to see what they've been up to.

The elves will, hands down, probably make up the majority of Wizards for the beginning. I'm sure the Silvanesti, who were isolated behind the Shield and missed out on the Sorcery fad, will be quite happy at the reappearance of the moons and the return of traditional High Sorcery powers.

Some groups of humans will probably favor Wizards of High Sorcery over Sorcerors. The Solamnics, for example, have never been fond of magic in general. But at least the White Robes bear an obvious mark of commitment to both the discipline of being in an Order and dedication to the cause of Good. They are probably far less likely to trust sorcerors, who will be seen as loose cannons unwilling to commit themselves to service to an Order or to the gods.

Dalamar and Jenna will probably spar over the matter of who will lead the White Robes. With Palin out of the equation there will be a huge need for a suitable candidate. They will also need to regain access to at least one Tower. It is worth noting that the Gods banned Dalamar from the old Tower of Palanthus, not all Wizards. Dalamar may not be forthcoming with this fact, but if Jenna figures it out she may go move into it, since it is no longer protected by the Shoiken Grove.

Sorcerors have an early edge, but the Wizards will be able to quickly amass strength with the support of the gods and access to magical knowledge from previous ages. They will also have a greater credibility with organizations like the Knights of Solamnia. Especially since the Thorn Knights are sorcerors, and that will have a negative impact on how sorcerors as a whole are perceived by others.
