Are there any fan articles or news-letters from the time of the Saga system? Or a page that is something like dragonlance.com?

thanks, arkozd

You'll meet quite a few on these forums, then, such as Brimstone and Rooks.

Dragonlance.com and the Nexus accept SAGA submissions, although truth to tell, there may only be 1 or 2 total.

There's also the Dragonlance Fifth Age Campaign Oracle. Beyond that, I'm not too aware of any SAGA-based websites.

WotC has a very well-hidden article called Learn About SAGA, in case anyone is interested.

Hope that helps.

Despite my negative feelings about SAGA I have to acknowledge that enough people enjoyed it since Fifth Age had a descent run. It seems odd that Hasbro might have drop the system altogether. So is there any other product that uses SAGA, aside from the old Marvel Super Heroes?

I'm not really a SAGA fan per-say but it is underrated around here by many IMHO.

Alright, guys, let's not get into a game system debate in regards to SAGA.

Game systems are like art: they're subjective. While one person may like a game system, another may not.

Some friends of mine made a "generic saga deck", to use the system with our own games, not just Dragonlance.

Basicaly they puted some diferent art in the cards, and created new concepts for them.

I started to play with dragonlance with the Saga system - a few months ago... I had no any materials from the adnd editions, so i bought the basic box of the Saga from a friend. We decided to play on krynn, with d20, with the info of Saga. But it was so amazing, that i started to collect all the suplements. I will buy the d20 things as well, because i realized that both the system is perfect - but for different aims. I use d20 for one kind of game (diffrent atmosphere), and Saga for an other.

Thanx the info, Dragonhelm.

My hunger for news (or old news) about Krynn is great, so send me news-letters, fan-articles, that you, members of the forum collected in the years.

So long as the discussion remains amicable whats wrong with a reasonable discussion of the relative merits of each system?

The supplements for SAGA were fantastic resources for information, even for those that didnt care for the gaming system.

It has been my experience that D&D vs. SAGA discussions tend to degenerate into flame wars. However, I have no problems with such discussions as long as they remain civil.

True. Admittedly, I never got into the SAGA game system, but I will say that I really digged Heroes of Steel, Defiance, Sorcery, and Hope. I was also pleased with Palanthas and Citadel of Light.

As far as I know, Dragonlance and Marvel Super Heroes were the only two worlds to ever use SAGA.

You know, Margaret told us the other day on the DL-L that one of the reasons that Dragonlance was switched to the SAGA system, wo to keep it from becoming the D&D movie by Courtney Solomon. Apparently, since Dragonlance was considered D&D at the time Solomon got the rights to make the movie, it was fair game...and TSR/WotC didn't want that to happen, so they switched it to a new system to protect it.

The other night, I was talking to Trampas on the phone, and he said he remembered back before they made the switch, the WotC was saying, "It doesn't matter what system Dragonlance is, so long as it isn't AD&D."

You put these two bits of information together, and one comes to a very interesting conclusion.

Granted, this probably isn't the only reason it was switched...but apparently it is one of them. And after seeing the attrocity that was the D&D:TM, it is now the most important reason in my mind. heh heh

It's too bad more fans didn't think that.

Alot of people have complained that they might as well not bother getting the game material, cause they hate half the changes, have to convert it all, etc etc.

Methinks it's just excuses. ;)

Rooks, this is the 5th time this week! You need help, man! ;)

To add to what Craig said above...

I never really got into the SAGA game system, personally. Admittedly, I was once your "stereotypical 4th age fan", and I didn't care for the 5th age boxed set.

However, I later went back, and collected all the SAGA products, minus the Fate Decks. I was pleasantly surprised!

As it turns out, the SAGA products had some of the greatest character ideas, plus a ton of reference materials. I really dig the roles in there. The prestige classes in Age of Mortals get their roots in SAGA. That's where neat ideas like the Kender Nightstalker originally came from. I'm especially happy with the "Heroes of..." products, as well as Citadel of Light.

So if you guys get a chance, pick up the SAGA DL products. Even if you don't use the system, they're wonderful resources.

I Strongly agree!
SAGA Rules System may not have been all that great, but those boxets have a "touch", a flair of its own, and it's exquisite.

But, since most of the things is out of print by long shots, do any of you guys know HOW to GET ANY?

Any help would be appreciated.

I've found a number in local gaming shops, as well as on E-bay. You can probably find them fairly cheap.
