Has anyone tried to use the modules put out by WOTC for 3rd edition with Dragonlance (ie: Sunless Citadel etc)?

I have all but the Speaker in Dreams, and have run the last four as part of my Dragonlance campaign. My campaign is based upon the backstory to BoBS and has worked well. In fact they are all set to finish in the next session or two.

Heart of Nightfang Spire.
This worked out ok, but not too great. I modified a little to change some of the foreshadowing to what I had planned.

Dark Horizon.
This I ran more as a first contact situation. I placed the scenario just south of Tarsis and the party had to deal with the racial differences between the Desmodu and the cityfolk. Lots of great RP from this one.

Lord of the Iron Fortress.
Mostly a combat module, but they ahd heard so much about the bad guy in this that they wanted to really take him out. It was a tough module for the players but they really liked it.

Bastian of Broken Souls.
Playing through it at the moment, but its playing out well.

I think that I might substitute modifed Shadowpeople for the desmodu in Dark Horizon.....it might just make it more like DL....but thats just me....or perhaps desmodu are an offshoot of the shadowperson race.......I guess I just like shadowpeople...lol

Yes Serena, I was going to agree with y9u. The shadowpeople would have a better subsitute for the desmodu. However do beholders exist in Dragonlance. I know that half-dragons do not so how do you change the villiams in the Lord of the Iron Fortrress and the half-orc/halfblack dragon in the desmodu module?

Yes, beholders do exist as an alien race to Krynn. Instead of a half-orc/half black dragon, one could use a particularly tough draconian.

or.....Depending on the era of play, a black dragonspawn hobgoblin would work.

The Desmodu worked ok actually, since they were an unknown element. The party were unable to communicate with them for ages except through sign language and drawing in the dirt.

I didn't change the half-dragons found in the modules since I don't see a problem with half-dragons in DL providing they are appropriate to the story being told.

Same goes with Beholders and mind flayers. DL isn't just about dragons after all.

I agree with you, and there is more. Even if you want a Half-Orc in your campaign you can have him there, as long as there is an explanation for it (there are plane traveling devices after all), but that can really spoil the "mood" of the campaign.

Half dragons, as I see them might exist just fine. What if Gilthanas had a son with Silvara? What would it be, an elf?
Just kidding, I donĀ“t really know how are half-dragons created, but if they can make draconians through wicked magic, then they might just have half dragons too, don't you think?

I will start a campaign in DL soon, and I have been considering using the modules as well. I'll then try the suggested modules in the post (okay, not really "sugested", but at least well recomended), if I can find them in time, otherwise I'll have to create, which is actually much more fun, but the drawback is that it might be frustrating.

For that reason I will look up for threads about adventures/campaign ideas for the DL in the 5th age. If I don't find it, I will then start one. That being said, anyone interested in the subject is already invited!

Tchau para todos!

I agree...I wouldnt mind seeing half dragons in DL...but I know why they arent there....and I can definitely be cool with the reason.....DL is already peppered with dragon stuff....draconians, dragonspawn, dragon orbs, dragonlances, dragon mages, etc.

There is just so much dragon stuff already....it can get to be too much.....then the dragon aspect is nowhere near as important....as the people of the world could see a dragon related whatever on just about any street corner.

Anyhow....The way you used the desmodu.....very cool. The reason I think so...there are just so many possibilities with that....are the desmodu related to the shadowpeople? or are they another until now lost race? you could actually take that somewhere very cool.
