Yep, we're talking about the Academy Sorcerer.

Assuming you join at the earliest possible opportunity, by the time you're a Sorcerer 5/Academy Sorcerer 10 you can theoretically have 7, count them 7, bonus feats. That, my friends, kicks ass.

Just for comparison purposes ...

Wizard 15 = 4 bonus feats
Fighter 15 = 8 bonus feats

I love my Age of Mortals book! *hugs it close*

And that ramps up to 9 bonus feats as a Sorcerer 5 / Academy Sorcerer 10 / War Mage 5! The Academy Sorcerer is truly a beautiful class, and a much needed power-boost to sorcerer characters in general.

The Academy Sorcerer was designed specifically to capture the feel of the SAGA primal sorcerer characters, with the understanding that Palin's academy was responsible for the codification and division of magical effects in the early Age of Mortals. One of the main goals was to open up the D&D sorcerer class to more of the flexibility and specialization that SAGA players had expected, without having a true freeform or points-based magic system (which could have taken up a whole book by itself).

I would be interested to hear from folks who've had the occasion to use Academy Sorcerers in play, or who have noticed any odd, quirky or potentially abusive combinations with the class. That's the kind of thing that ultimately benefits later design, much as the recent War Mage discussion has shed light on some potential problems with certain character choices.

Cheers,
Cam
