Query about 5th age(SAGA) DL material

I have always been a fan of the Dragonlance novel line, however, I found my interest waning in the gaming material about the same time the 5th age SAGA products were released. Now that we have 3ed Dragonlance, I've become interested again. I was wondering something about the SAGA material, which I never got to see, and finding a copy of most of them seems difficult(I believe most are out of print?)

I understand that classes like the Mystic were first introduced in the SAGA material, and some of the prestige classes in current 3ed may have been inspired from material/classes in it as well. I was wondering if 3ed DL had covered all the classes and such that were included in the SAGA edition? What classes were players able to select from the various SAGA products, is what I am asking?

Keep in mind, I am not asking for the entire descriptions to be printed here(which would almost certainly be in violation of copyright laws), I'm merely asking for a list of them and perhaps even a basic description of what they were. I assume this isn't against any form of copyright laws, hopefully? Normally such lists can be found on the back of gaming products or in their advertisements anyway, so I would assume not, anyway.

To my knowledge, SAGA didn't really use classes in the D&D sense of the word, but it did have several Roles (which is a similar concept).

SAGA introduced two new breeds of spellcaster to Dragonlance - the sorcerer and the mystic. When DL went to 3e, the decision was made to use the existing D&D sorcerer to represent the SAGA sorcerer, and a new mystic class was created, which is to the cleric what the sorcerer is to the wizard.

Many of the roles in SAGA have become prestige classes in the Age of Mortals book. In fact, I believe that all the AoM prestige classes have their roots in SAGA.

While many of the roles were covered, there are a few remaining that have not been converted to prestige classes. The one that I can think of right off is the Dwarf Earth Mystic. Granted, the basic idea on how to do that is to take one dwarf, take the mystic class, and have the earth domain.

My favorite part of the SAGA DL products is the roles. There's some awesome ideas in there, and plenty of background.

There were a ton of roles. Each boxed set had another 15 or so to add to the selection. (your race could also be added to your Role...or it could be the only Role you have if you wanted).

Anyway, a book called the SAGA Companion was releaed which complied all the roles and new special rules...so it could be used concurently with the 5th Age Boxed Set and you would get all the rules you needed to play. For some reason it seems like there were cole to 100 roles...I'll have to double check tonight.

To answer the original question, here are some of the other roles in SAGA that might make good prestige classes and have yet to be officially created for Dragonlance 3e:

1. Archer (perhaps use the Sovereign Stone archer class)
2. Guild Thief (perhaps use the Forgotten Realms campaign prestige class)
3. Mercenary Warrior (received bonuses to attack opponents per encounter)
4. Qualinesti Rebel (think resistance fighter)
5. Rider (ala the Cavalier)
6. River Pirate (perhaps a customized PrC for the Mariner base class of AoM)

With the exception of the Qualinesti rebel, those roles are a little too generic and not world-specific enough for Dragonlance. An archer is an incredibly common character, whether it's a ranger with the archery combat style or a fighter that picks up archery feats. Riders, mercenary fighters, etc are just a little too broad to really be worth creating a prestige class for outside of a generic sourcebook like Sword and Fist, etc.

Yeah ... and these existing Dragonlance prestige classes are world-specific?

War Mage
Spellfilch
Master Ambassador
Inquisitor
Legendary Tactician
Righteous Zealot

Prestige classes don't always have to be world-specific. If that were the case, then we wouldn't have any of the above-listed prestige classes in Dragonlance.
