I'm well aware that the athas.org folks have to be working on epic-level stuff for DS3E (considering all the goodies that need converting from Dragon Kings), so don't worry, this isn't a thread about Athasian dragons, avangions, or clerical elementals.

What this thread is about is the presence or non-presence of epic monsters on Athas. Granted, a few, like the divine Abominations, definitely do not fit and should not be considered.

But what about the others? Does Athas have room for ruin swarms and devestation vermin? Could a worm that walks possibly exist in the Tyr region? Would a genius loci be a corrupt spirit of the land? Couldn't a mu spore be a leftover superweapon from the Blue Age?

--etc etc NB

Swarms of Insects could fit, but the rest does probably not make sense.

How about a tauric mekillo/beastheaded giant with the barbarian/shaman/other epic class.

Ho! and maybe an uncommon giant epic druid with astounding intelligence. He can polymorph into a rock.(those big predatory bird)

I can see the ruin swarms and devistation vermin.... the former I can see in the Tablelands region, the latter might work better up bear the Troll Grave Chasm, or down in the Crimson Savannah. I can see a Genus Loci being in Athas, maybe one that had been hurt/corrupted by defiler activity and left it resentful and far more meanacing as a result. The Worm that Walks would have to reworked a bit to fit Athas, but I'd say it's a possibility. And I like the idea that a Mu spore is a leftover superweapon from the Blue Age.

The drakes in ToA all have CRs in the upper teens so it wouldn't take much to push them into the epic levels. There's also at least one epic monster in TotDL (the Crimson, CR 22) and any kaisharga or meorty of appreciable level will also be an epic foe. And let's not forget the squark ;)

As for the ELH, there are definitely some critters from there that could be tweaked. Most would be remnants of bygone eras, failed sk experiments, wayward elementals etc, but it might fit if your game got to those levels. Some idle thoughts...

Abominations are probably a no-go but you could maybe come up with tweaks for the chichimec and phaeton as elementals.
Behemoths sound fine, if a little odd in application.
Colossi also, although the iron colossus is clearly a problem ;)
Devastation vermin for sure.
Primal elementals are perfect for Athas.
Genius loci could be corrupted/defiled Spirits of the Land or something like that.
Glooms could be used as advanced shadow people - make them small and use them as the lords of the lost rhulisti?
The ha-naga sounds like one of those "legendary Green Age" creatures that Jihun-Nish was talking about (iirc).
Lavawights might be treated as the undead survivors of the destruction of Ur Draxa, the Deadlands or denizens of Lava Gorge.
Legendary animal could be used but isn't really athasian flavour.
LeShay echo the athasian pyreen and shouldn't be used.
Living Vaults are made for the sks - excellent.
Where there are mercane there are dhowar. No penguins please.
I love the idea of the bioweapon mu-spore :D
Paragon fits nicely too - good for pumping those drakes!
The pseudonaturals could be used in the vast swamp at the base of Jagged Cliffs - mutations from Rajaat's Curse.
Ruin swarm are cool - a good fit.
Shadow of the Void could be another beastie from the Black - advanced shadow giants?
Shapes of Fire might be useable as high-level fire priests who became undead.
Thorciasids seem to cool to leave out because of obvious kreen connections but would be hard to justify. Maybe use these as advanced zik-chil or something?
Elder treants make a nice addition for the deep forests.
Worms that Walk could be some kind of failed experiment in alternate sources of magic.

Heh - just a few ideas. That was a laugh
