Kender are interesting, to say the most. I don't play them, nor do any of my players, not because we don't like them, but because we feel that players can't play kender right. When the Kender is played right, no one wants to have him in the party. Most players just try to be exactly like Tasselhoff, but he was different.

Actually, you're saying the least. Kender are far more than just "interesting."

I like kender. I see myself as a person who could easily travel with kender. When I see that my spell component pouch is missing, I'll ask if anyone's seen it, if the kender then answers "Oh, it was yours? You must've dropped it" or something like that, I'll just say "Thanks for picking it up." The key is to go along with their little "excuses."

How can anyone not like kender? I have a question though and I didn't know where else to post it. What are the game stats for kender?

The game stats for Kender are in the new 3.5 Dragonlance campaign book, it also lists the rules for afflicted Kender.

The age of mortals book also covers half-kender.

I'd also like to add that i'm another big fan of kender, especially Kronin Thissleknot, afterall he was the one who killed Highlord Toede (the first time i mean).

This player in my current Dragonlance campaign likes kender, he's actually playing one ... and he's got 2 levels of Diviner to boot (he's currently 5th level)!

In my new DL campaign, I have been blessed and cursed as a GM to have my best friend playing a Kender handler. So far we have had only three adventures, but the Kender and the Ogre barbarian have become good friends, and the rest of the group is already starting to find their own way to deal with the Kender. One thing that makes this Kender so much fun is that the player have read the various Kender related articles from the Kender Encyclopedia/website especially the “how to play a Kender” one. This makes for a player who has a good grasp of what a Kender is, and how to play it is such a way as to make the experience fun for all the players AND the GM.

Giorgio, where did your player find 'how to play a kender' article? Kender are my heros but I don't know exactly how they could be incorporated into normal gameplay. If you could give me the link htat would be great.

I like Kender :D

Unlike the Hobbits in LOTR, the kinder aren't a bunch of mind their own business "homebodies." They like to go out into the world and see it all.

My fav. Kender Quote:
"Whana be friends?!" (One of the most feared questins to be herd from a kender to any other race or species).

There aren't many places a Kender can go and feel welcome. Thank you! (Except for the people who want to eat them.)

You know, now that I think about it though, I don't think I've ever had Kender. I mean, I've chewed on my nails and the little bits of hard skin that grow right beside them, you know? And maybe a scab or two, but that's it!

What if Kender taste really good and I'm missing out? Well, I just couldn't bring myself to outright eat one for the sake of eating one. It may turn out to be a cousin or Grandpa Thinbreeches and then I couldn't look my poor mama in the face ever again.

But if it was an accident and some crazy person started roasting one because they had to stay alive out in the mountains or something and I just happened to be passing by and they offered. . .

No, no! Well, maybe.

You fellows sure know how to perplex one so.

Love,
Haldon

Oh I adore those little creatures. They make the perfect material component for 'Detect Trap'. Best of all, you don't have to bother casting a spell for it.

Seriously though, I never play kender because I just don't feel that I can maintain that level of excitement and energy throughout the course of a game, and if I can't play a kender well, then I would rather play a character that I can do justice to. One of my players, however, plays nothing but kender in DL games. The campaign I am about to begin, two-fifths of the party might be kender. My sympathies are with the other three.

it is easy for me to play kender, because i am already hyper and don't take the gaming sessions seriously enough. infact, when NOT playing kender, i have been given three strikes until i am punished for being really childish. thus, they are my favorite.

Some of the funist game seasons i've had have been while playing a kender. It's fun keeping the other players on their toes. And thoes love-hate relationships really do develop naturily... Getting tied up, escaping, the confused looks, getting tied up again...(shif)... good times.

Heres to kender.

P.S.
the most feared words to come out of a kender are "I'm boerd"

I'm gonna play devil's advocate here, simply by saying my true feelings...

I hate kender. I hate halflings in general.
They're short, irritating, and are only good for cannon fodder.

If I played myself in a game, I'd probably end up scalping any kender who came near me, simply because I can't take the obnoxious 'handling' and the Uncle Trapspringer stories.

And I think Tas should have died a lot earlier than he did....and the little bugger should have stayed in the Abyss. Takhisis could keep him, for all I care.

Kender rule. I myself may or may not be able to play one(but I'm the DM anyway, so it doesn't matter that much to me), but one of my friends actually is a Kender in real life. I'm serious. Okay, he's not quite as short as a Kender, his hair isn't near as long(but he wants to grow a topknot), and he has too much facial hair, but he acts just like a Kender. He's always curious, whenever he gets into a car the first thing he does is root around the glove compartment and see if he can find anything interesting. Whenever he goes into somebody's house , or Wal-Mart, or something, he has a bad habit of picking small, interesting things up, examining them, and absent-mindedly putting them into his pocket, or if he's wering them, his pouches(yes, he actually does have pouches). He's not a shoplifter, he seriously doesn't realize that he's doing it. Before he leaves someplace, he always pats himself down to make sure that nothing fell into his pockets by accident. A while ago, at our last session, he left his dice at my house, but kept insisting that he didn't, because he distinctly remembered putting them into his Altoids box(that's were he keeps his dice). Well, it turns out, they were in fact his dice, he stuck legos, marbles, and a bouncy ball into his box. True story. Oh yeah, he's the Kender I'm talking about in my sig.

I had a couple of roleplaying friends who absolutely hated kender. So I told them to read Spirit of the Wind. Now they both have a kender character. What's the lesson of the story? Don't play with matches. No, that's not it. Always look left and right when crossing a road? Nope, not that one either. Umm...2+2=4? Well it is, but...Chris Pierson rules? Yeah, that's the one.

As you turn the corner you see a figure just over 4 foot. He is wearing purple camouflage with red tiger stipes. He has flowing red hair with a ponytail secured at the top of his skull. All players turn and run away, Stargazer Lightfoot has arrived.

Stargazer is my one, and only, kender character I have played. He was born on Ansalon and has been to Faerun, The World of Two-moons (Elfquest), has joined the R.E.F. (Robotech Expeditionary Force in search of the invid), and has even repelled an invasion from Clan Jade Falcon (battletech). He is the current commander of the 31st Explorer Corps, based at outpost 39 on planet Exonon located in the periphery just outside the Inner Sphere (Battletech).

I use Stargazer as a "DM's" avatar. Mostly for comedy relief or when I need to "nudge" the party in a certain direction. Most people who like to play halflings (you know the race that become kender if they stay in krynn long enough) love Stargazer, he generally takes their information, name, age, place of birth, favorite color and gives them a Kender Membership of Krynn I.D. card good for one instant resurection usable only at the time of death of the card bearing member (they usually do not know the card will resurrect the character).

Gota respect the Kender. If annyoing, they don't mean it. I mean seriously, I can't stay angry at those cute little for long.
On an odd note. One of my players has started playing a Kinder Sorcerer. It's kinda like mixing a lit match with napalm, looks like Ansalon's geography is gunna get shifted again.

I have to admit it took me a long time to open up to the idea of playing a kender. However half way through the DLCS I formed the idea of a kender barbarian/rogue. I fully intend to play him if my current character meets an untimely demise. My poor DM is a little unsure of what a kender in my hands would do to his plot progression.

I think I may have inadvertantly discovered the secret to keeping a character alive indefinately hehe.

I love 'em too. They're one of the elements I like about the DL setting. I've mostly DM'ed, but the one time i was a DL player, I played a kender wizard. (Well, he was a bard, but I figured that's what would pass for a kender wizard. The DM also agreed with my opinion that it was okay for kender to be spellcasters, so long as it was limited to the bard stuff. [This was back in the AD&D 2nd-ed days.])
