...It Ends...

"Yes, you read correctly - the Kargatane are leaving Vallaki, and returning to Darkon after many years of running this odd little bookshop.

This has been a very big decision, and is not one that has been made easily. After seven years of being Ravenloft's major online presence, however, we've decided to have a rest. You can read a more lengthy announcement here."

kargatane

Kind of a downer coming back from having a great time at a Halloween Party and seeing this. I guess it's time for the Kargs to move on with their lives, and I wish them the best of luck and happiness. Hopefully, I'll see your names in further products from White Wolf/Arthaus.

Thanks for everything guys!

Do you want to use the defribulator, or shall I go get my "Necromancy For Nitwits"?

Well I still believe its just intended as a halloween joke.

Heck, even yesterday the news on the site said that their are some surprises (*hint* *hint*) ahead for halloween and now the site is down?
Besides that, there has been no mentionings about internal problems etc that would have hinted at problems with the site.
And just how senseless is it to shut down the only official site for a product line that is just been build up again?

Oh well, maybe you all already knew this and just played the part - and now its me whos been fooled, but anyway. :D
Im sure the mists will part again and reveal the truth once more.

If youre wondering who I am, I can tell you that I havent posted on the karagatne boards before (not a Ravenloft player), but I still like to take a look at the discussions and stuffs available at the kargatane from time to time.

Oh dear I wouldn't want to be you when you realize that it is actually finished.

The boards dont work because they aren't there anymore. Go to www.kargatane.com and look at the title page. That's all there is, there was even a party and everything as they closed it. The surprises were:

1) The site was closing down. See the main page for more on why.
2) They released CoTN: Demons for download
3) Shadow of the Knife was also released for download.

Both these downloads can be taken from the static page.

I'm sure one of the former Kargatane members will show up tommorrow or in a day or two to confirm this. But the horrible truth is that it is gone, they didn't get paid for running the site and in the end they had to move on (at least two of them got married in recent years, I mean if that doesn't take up your time I dont know what would).

Much as we wish otherwise, it is a reality.

Oh and Cole, the "stupid comment" was actually my response Gemathustra. I fourtunatly thought to retract it almost the moment I posted it. The post about the community still stands though.

We have been a lucky bunch over the years. Part of it is because the Karg were fans as we are before they were involved in the setting.

Did we ever get to know who was Azalin??
He said he would answer that at 11h30 but he never came back. I left at 00h15.

I can't believe it, I just got home at 12:50 this afternoon only to find the Goat gone, along with most of the site. I'm gonna miss the old boards, but hopefully the 'loft will find a new home soon.

Well you know the head of the Kargatane, the one in the attic that everyone thought was dead.

Well he was a little more animated than any of us thought.

Yes, Azalin unveiled himself as Ryven shortly before the site shut down.

And making the effort was very considerate of him, given that he's dead. I hope you're appreciative.

Greetings.

With the Vallaki Bookshop and the Malodorous Goat Taverns in smoldering flames, we here at Midway Haven have aghreed to accept refugees and burn-injured victims. The MHAO will continue and even accelerate our presence on the web, bringing Ravenloft fan material as it comes. Additionally, the editors of both Quoth the Raven and the Undead Sea Scrolls are working closely on the situation, and will bring you news as it comes.

Thank you. Long live Ravenloft.

Please, explain better. Was it Barry that wrote Azalin's texts ? I mean, the real world person. As far as I remember, Ryven was merely a Kargatane persona, let's say, an NPC.

Then, either I misunderstood what meant "to reveal who Azalin was" or the information you gave amounts to nothing. Or is it just a conclusion to the whole story of the Kargatane ? So, during the whole time, the K were hiding and perhaps protecting Azalin, not trying to find what had happened to him.

I know you always liked secrets and games, but I really liked to know who wrote Azalin's messages on the boards.

Mysteries are often much more entertaining than the truths they conceal.

I think you'd find that this is one of those times.

Very true, I'm sure.

All the same, I would venture the following guesses (and yes, I know you can confirm or deny nothing ;) ):

--It was John who gave us Azalin's eloquent discussion of the morality of raising the dead. I'm not quite as sure on this one, but my guess would also be that it was John who gave us the Magical Flying Headless Torso.

--It was Ryan who coined the phrase "Flying monkeys" --"because they're not dignified enough to be called Oompa Loompas" --and also Ryan who deleted a hundred posts from an unfortunate petitioner and then exclaimed, "I feel so jaunty."

I always thought that the Flying Monkey thing fit in more with JWM's personality. Him or Hackard.
