Hey everyone,

After extensive weeks of reading, days of rules-mongering and hours of hemming and hawing, I've completed my 3.5 conversion of the Heroes of the Lance. Feel free to check them out!

Hope you enjoy!

Great work, Shugi! I'll never forgive you for lowering Tanis' Strength and boosting his Dexterity, but you covered all the bases.

Not sure that Flint's CR is right with that expert level. He may only have a CR of 3, depending on how you'd add 1/2 CR to 3 CR.

Cheers,
Cam

lookin good. Just one problem though. In the books, caramon was always depicted wearing ring mail....

My only major qualm is that Tika does not have Improved Shield Bash, nor does she have a shield in her possession.

Then again, I suppose she got all that later on. Ah well.

Thanks, guys. Touching on your points:

Cam: His Dex was supposed to be a 17 - a relatively important 1-point difference. Fixed, but maybe still too high for your tastes. I had envisioned (and the books seemed to confirm this) that Tanis was strong without being buff, hence the Str of 14.

Magus: Ringmail isn't listed in the PHB, so I went with chainmail.

Udjat: Tika hasn't acquired that skill yet, like you surmised.

It looks alright, thanks for all of your work, but shouldnt Raistlin have at least one level of Wizard of High Sorcery??

That is what I was thinking. Perhaps this is just before his test.

I think the Companions look great, and definitely stick to the books as well as the modules. The only thing I would ever change is purely a matter of campaign flavor.
I ran the War of the Lance last year, and actually lowered the Companions' ability scores (in some cases). I thought it more "true to life" in most cases, but it just happened to fit the flavor of the campaign. I was trying to emphasize how a somewhat "down-to-earth" group of people can be swept up in an epic adventure.

I like them, especially Raistlin, Caramon, Laurana and Tanis. Great job, I can't wait to see future editions of the Heroes as they advance.

Actually, Raistlin has a note that clarifies the situation. In short, he couldn't take the WoHS class without 4 levels of wizard, and I wanted the Companions to be of equal level.

Serves me right for not reading them in their entirety

Shouldn't Tikas ring be listed as "Truewhatever's Whatever" , you know part of that trio of magic item thingies.

What about these stats would have to be changed to 3rd edition if I wanted to use them in a 3rd campaign.....unfortunately I know absolutly nothing about 3.5

I say make them all level 5. If you're going to give Flint levels in Expert, give him 2, and then 4 levels of Fighter(if going by my suggestion). As I read somewhere, I forget where, the Companions average levels were 4.75, which rounds up to 5.

I very much agree with 4th level across the board, save and except possibly for Riverwind.

But its all good. Nice work.

They should be at least 6 th level if they are going to fight Khisanth.

Cam: Since "They" haven't used fractions when a CR is higher than 1, I decided to keep Flint's CR at 4. It's mainly a judgement call - but I consider Flint to be a "low" CR 4. I think a decent alternative would be to count Flint as CR 3, but Goldmoon and Sturm as CR 5 (for their above-par equipment).

Halabis: I decided to leave Tika's ring open to speculation - also, she's not actually wearing it as a ring, so I feel slightly justified in not listing what it does, i.e. it's a normal ring as far as she's concerned.

Tas: There are relatively few changes. Ability scores, saves, AC, and attack rolls are fine, but you'd have to reconfigure skills (a couple 3.5 class skills aren't 3.0 class skills, and I think Tas loses some synergy benefits in 3.0).

Amaron: From a gaming standpoint, the characters shouldn't have fought Khisanth at all. However, eight 4th-level characters (many with overpowered equipment) have a chance against a juvenile Khisanth (which fits my opinion of her despite the MM age-in-years). If need be, the DM can decide what the Blue Crystal Staff does (which is my interpretation of how the fight in Chronicles went anyway).

In my playtests of the DL1 conversion for 3rd edition, using the Heroes as 5th-level characters, the heroes managed to beat Onyx consistently in about 2 rounds without sustaining too many casualties (in one session, Flint and Tanis died; in two other sessions, nobody died at all).

This is because all the PCs had to do was hit Onyx with the Blue Crystal Staff as a touch attack. Since Onyx's touch AC is around 6, it wasn't too hard. They just had to get close enough...

Cheers,
Cam

BTW, what were the original AD&D levels of Tika? I mean before the War of the Lance? I'm asking so I can use them in my own version of the Heroes.
