I would like to know your opinion about the use of God's avatar in greyhawk. In 1st, God's stats were listed, as if they are belonging to the MM.. even if it was only possiblle to kill them on their plane (for 10 yeras if i remember well ?)
On 2nd, only God's avatr were edited, i found it more realist, but it's only my opinion.
In 3rd, i don't know where to find there stats, the same for quasi detities like Murlynd, Keoghtom, Kelanen or even major demon like Grazz't or Iggwilv.
Does any of you converted them to 3rd? and do you ever wish to/ use them?

The Greyhawk gods have an unofficial oath not to interfere with the lives of mortals and their doings whether evil or good.

Now as canon has contradicted itself for example with Iuz, Cuthbert, Vecna, etc I can see how some people enjoy this aspect, but for my players... they are considered ants on the planet of Oerth in relationship to the various gods.

metaphor?

A couple ants in my backyard could be worshiping me, but I could step on them and not even notice, let alone show up to stop a horsefly from eating one.

-My opinion-

I do believe that at least the GH gods presented in the PHB are statted in the 3E version of Deities and Demigods.

I personally like the idea of the gods being distinctly seperate from mortals but still beatable by mortals.

To that end, I like the original stats of gods and have downgraded a lot of the gods as presented in the DDG. But I've also set a mortal limit of 20 levels, so without some divine assistance or an artifact, mortals aren't going to challenge the gods in a hurry. But so too can interacting with them be a risk for a god.

I've also made it that they are inherently tied to the fate of mortals. Should a race ever die out, so too would the gods of that race. That makes the gods inherently interested in the affairs of mortals and so means they are always trying to influence them. Only the pact between them prevents a godswar, something which has only happened once before in the history of Oerth and was so utterly devastating that only a god of destruction, who didn't care for even his own fate, would ignite such a war or seek the final solution... hence the insane Tharizdun having been locked away by a combined effort of all the known gods of Oerth.

That's my personal take on the situation anyway.

I don't know about stats for hero-gods like Murlynd or Keoghtom, but I can tell you that 3E stats for Grazz't and other prominent demons and devils are found in the Book of Vile Darkness.

I haven't taken a close look, but this idea seems to be fleshed out some in the Miniatures Handbook, which presents "Aspects" of various gods (Hextor, Kord, Vecna, Lloth, etc.). Aspects are basically toned-down version of deities, making them more legitimate opponents for PCs.

Hey. A poster began a project to "stat" the Greyhawk deities in the Realms of Evil Greyhawk folder. Goto http://www.realmsofevil.net/cgi-bin/forums/YaBB.cgi?board=greyhawk. See the "Important Topic." Enjoy.
