Hi,

just wanted to know, can odems be killed ? Better even, can they be killed without harming the host ? Is there any way to expel an odem from someone's body ? Plus, if they're inherently invisible (and incorporeal ?), is there any way for an adventurer to effectively fight them (will True Seeing help ?)

I'm planning an adventure with Nostalia and an Odem, which I think could turn into an interesting one. I just need to give the PCs some chance of defeating the Odem, possibly letting its victim live :-)

Thanks.

I have exactly the same problem as I want to do the adventure from a BoS which has the odem who tries to overthrow the church of Ezra.

First of all, odems can be seen as ethereal creatures, there are spells which enable the user to look into the resonance. There's also the ghostsight feat (one of my players has it) which can help.

For getting the odem out of the body I have thought of some ritual. The movie Exorcist can give some inspiration there, but I don't intend to go so far. Probably my players will have to discover the ritual in some way.

As of killing - I thought of giving a weapon which could strike the odem. Use ghost touch special ability if you want to make it into a battle. I want.

I have also thought that the odem could be imprisoned in a specially enchanted bottle as an alternative.

If anyone else has any ideas I'd like to hear about them, of course.

I had a group that once trapped an odem in a magic jar and basically starved it to death. I don't remember how the whole nourishment thing worked at that time, but I allowed it. As they sank the jar into the Sea of Sorrows I ruled the odem persona non cognosca regardless.

One of my players encountered an odem (under 2e rules); as a ghostwatcher he tried to slash the the thing with a ghost touch waraxe, then put it in a coffin of lead (sold at 3500 gp).
