Sup,

Castles Forlorn...Is this set still usable with 3e ? Meaning is the stuff from the CASTLES FORLORN BOXED SET still around in 3e or has it been written out like Lord Soth?

To my knowledge, zll the information contained within the box is still relevent in 3rd ed as none of it is time related and it doesn't contain any actual adventure material. I personally think that Castles Forlorn is one of the best products I have ever read/ran/played.

Yes, its not only relevant its a pretty cool adventure. Hope you likes druids, haunted castles and the great "evil" forrest arch-types. Though I am not wild about the Darklord of the domain and his dual nature I thought it was a great boxed set. Almost as good as the Nightmare Lands.

If nothing else, the large maps in the boxed set are *very* handy, though the adventures not actually set in the castle didn't thrill me that much.

Pity American Science and Surplus doesn't look to be getting any more of them in stock...

HvF,

I saw Nightmare Lands on there too. Think I should buy?

DEFINATELY.

In my opinion those are the two coolest/most original domains out there. they also happen to be my favorite. With the nightmare lands you can basically do anything and get away with it (ok ok so the dm can do anything anyway but this makes it more fun and less gripe from the players). The dream rules to be honest aren't really that great but as long as you can "make" them work for you or come up with your own, it leads to some very interesting adventures.

The Nightmare Lands boxed set is one of the best that I have bought.

The Nightmarelands is my single favorite boxed set. Nightmares are a useful tool for instilling horror into a PC or PCS. Even you don't use the boxed set as written it should give you enough creepy ideas to scare the poopies out of your PCs so that they don't want to sleep at night even at the nice warm (safe?) tavern. The insane asylum is also well detailed.

Best of all the Nightmares are completely out of the PCs control vis-a-via understanding the "crunchiness" of the bad guys. Getting free of the manipulations of the Nightmare Court requires more than a +real big bonus on an attack role or the ability to cast disintegrate. I've always found that scarrier than something I can quantify into D&D terms.

I am hoping that my bid is not overwhelmed.

If you do pick up the Castles Forlorn boxed set, I strongly suggest you look at Ravenloft Gazetteer Vol. 1. Andrew Cermak and I work hard to update Forlorn for 3e, in hopes that DMs would be able to run Castles Forlorn in the new edition.

Even without the Gaz I, i managed to run Castles Forlorn fairly smoothly. The PCs enjoyed exploring the castle and there were very few hitches (except when it came to trying to map the castle but that is to be expected).

My favorite part is a minor encounter in the library where the paladin'hunter of the undead picked up a book on undead and encountered a geaist thatmade the Pc see a vision of a creature creeping up on her in the chair, where she is sitting. The Pc watched facinated and discovered that the creature was herself as a vampire. Once the creature had reached her (and revealed it'self) in pounces at her in an attempt to bite her (whch i did to the player) He consiquently jumped and shrieked and it was immense fun. This boxed set is awesome.

On the Nightmare Lands, I bought it as a suppliment to the Planescape Guide to the Ethereal Plane, where it is referenced. It's good just for the concept of dream adventures. I did like the Nightmare Court and also had great fun using the adventures from the box, especially the Ghost Dancer whoom I think is great.
