Question for the PS-Icon-Name folks

This randomly came up in my head today so I figure I'd ask all of you to see if you felt the same.

Before I started coming here and half-way IC playing as Center Of All, I was more strongly toward the chaotic side of role-player, both in D&D and without (board-based online games, the MUD I play in, etc.). Now that I switched names to the leader of the Rilmani, I've started to better appreciate and understand the perspective of the Rilmani and their fight for perfect Balance. Truth be told, any true-neutral characters I'd had in the past were neutral because they didn't care enough about morals or ethics to be good/evil/lawful/chaotic. They just wanted to do their thing. But now that I've been settling into this "role," as light-hearted as it can be sometimes, I find it easier to imagine what a rilmani -- more specifically, what Center Of All -- would think and how he would act in a given situation.

I am curious if any of you all noticed something similar happen to you once you started regularly using a Planescape Icon screen name.

I know I'm not concerned by what you say, but I've felt the same thing with one of my characters: from the moment I began playing a Gangrel (a feral vampire from Vampire: The Masquerade) I started acting more... savage... careless... sorry, I can't find the worlds... but anyway, I think this is a risk and a joy of us roleplayers.

Well I've noticed that whenever you heavily RP and honestly delve into the mindset of the particular character you're RP'ing that you tend to get the whole package so to speak.

Going with the Shemeska persona I've honestly noticed an increase in well, ego in posts I make, and a tendancy to be a bit more arrogant at times, as befitting the character. Very subtle usually, but its there, for better or for worse. (Thats not to say that 'I' don't have an ego. Any writer does, and if they tell you differently they're liars. :D )

But aside from that, I've immensely enjoyed some of the IC chatter and conversation here on the boards. It's been incredibly amusing to handle questions and some topics from this persona, very much so.

I picked this name out a long time ago, mostly just because I thought the faction was awesome and I wanted a name that reflected my adoration of Planescape. I never wrote anything in-character until Shemeska showed up and started doing it. My problem is that the Ciphers have always kept a low profile. They don't really hold any official positions on anything. Rhys, though is awesome because she's a Wiz15/Ftr15 Master of the Heart who can kill you before she know's you're there.

Maybe when the new PS3E material comes out, I'll get more material to use, like her position on the Sigil board. Unless Shemeska wants to reveal that early...

Well, myself, my title has been more of an issue of duty, being the core DM of the city of Jasper, Alabama. However, my icon has always been this overbearing illithid preacher, and just today, a personality began to form...

I imagine an alhoon, or mind flayer lich, who is a planeswalking psion/sorcerer...a mind mage actually, who fuses the two arts flawlessly...(I love my last issue of Dragon!!) The name imprint he gives is of his psicrystal/phylactory, a smooth orb of jasper placed at the chakra point on his forehead...and the unruly guy was born. I think he fits me just fine, and as it goes, maybe I'll pick up more of his surly, threatening habits.

Xanxost doesn't remember being Xanxost for very long. That may be because Xanxost was stuck on a prime world for a long time. They didn't call me "Xanxost" there, they called me "AbyssalHorrorRunAway". Xanxost was going to correct them, but decided to chase their livestock out of town instead.

I like my persona. He's a bit restricting at times, its alot harder to joke, but its still an interesting thing. I've begun focusing more and more on mechanus in my DMing, wondering what's there, how its there, etc. I even wrote up that Mathematician PrC just for the fun of it.

Plus, whenever Center is around we turn into an old Vaudeville act, and I find that amusing. :D

I particularly like how all of the little iconic gang has that character's home listed as their "Location," except for Xanxost... but what can you expect?

well im kinda part of and not part of the gang.

You see the Bone-Box Rattler is a PS place so is realms of evil (well it has a part like here).

Im just a bert that knows more then he thinks he does (odd realy) thats what I get from hanging out at three place (plus the mimir and PS 3E).

Right now im trying to get the info that I got off PS 3E (thos three chapters and such) ready and easy to print for me but thats differnt as I have had to make many changes so I can use other feats that can give the abilitys that where there (and more then that as well). Then I have the money thread and a two god threads at RoE going on plus a few others at other places.

sorry for this fluff but its good to get that stuff out (So I dont lose my brain-box you know).

*hehs*

Much worse than arching towards your iconics is what my name brings me to. Mine's based on a nickname for Torus Firewalker, an shell of an aspect of an eternal (He's the part of Change that fuels evolution -- if he were a deity, he'd be the patron of leveling, heh). Over the years, I've played him in several forms, including in a very direct manner on a game with a few too many uberpowergamers to smack around. As such, not only have I gained his arrogance and superiority complex (And, nicely, his confidence -- the character is seriously the only reason I've ever had a girlfriend for any length of time, eesh), but his WARDROBE.

Well, his leather jackets and one of his swords, at least.

Thankfully, I got past the hissing and serpentine tongue-flicking habit after high school... but I'm still a biter, thanks to him..

I've got an unused for the moment account on the Bone-Box rattler, and I frequent the realms of evil PS board quite a bit. I usually post any stories or other creative bits there before I post here oddly enough.

Oooh, interesting. More PS boards. Might someone be kind enough to point me in the directions of their websites?

Nobody seems interested in my wares here. Maybe the flashing neon signs are a bit too deceptive? They couldn't be much more obvious. In case anyone's in a pinch, I'm one of the best people to come to for portal keys. That is, of course, not all I have available.

I don't know if posting as Lord of the Ninth has really changed my personality, I mean sure my last several characters have been evil, self-centered and had a desire for conquest or at least a Machiavellian interest in politics. But that could just be a coincidence.

Oddly enough, I'd say that of all my SNs (most of which have since been abandoned), LotN is probably the most well known, and least agressive.
