I am including a pic of the Dark Garden that I have been working on. For those who dont know what it is... It is a Pyramid with in a pyramid with a secret garden that the Dragon Kings keep to fuel their spells as their spells run off the life force of anything around them. They choose plants mostly as they dont want to kill most of their citizens when casting their spells.

Hey,

I went to the link and downloaded the Dark sun games, but for some reason they won't run right.

I've tried running in Dos mode and everything. I keep getting a error after the first couple of screens. "You need 63528 more conventional bytes of memory to run Dark Sun". This can't be right, my computer is not that old...there is no way my pc can't run this game!

Any clues...

Thanks,

Too little information.

The primary problem spot (and really the only one) is your Operating System. Especially if you have WindowsME. WinXP runs them just fine since it supports DOS much better (whether that's in a virtual environment or built in Dos emulator/rom I'm not sure). Win95 and 98 should run Dos games fairly well, though you may need secondary programs runnning to tweak the game and make it playable (like a low down program). If your OS doesn't support Dos very well, you can try doing a search for some kind of emulator, or, if your drivers all support Dos (check with manufactuers, its worth it for the thousands of cool arse old games out there), you can make a simple dos boot disk that will load up your comp without Windows. All in all, its real pain in the rear, but if your into Abandonware games as much as I am (yes, I'm that cheap that I don't just wait for a game to go on sale after a year, I wait till its absolutely free ;)), then the payoff is there.

DOSBox, a project found on sourceforge.net, really helps with older DOS games and getting them working in Winblows. Or in Linux, Mac, etc.

Well,

I am running windows 98...

I can get it to run the game untill the third inro screen (Just has the big dark sun image on it.....then it crashes...and gives me the above posted error)

I downloaded an emulator...

Have no idea how that is going to help me though....HEHE...don't understand it one bit!

i think I'll give up on trying to make it run....

Sucks though,

If you're running on Win98 environment you should try (manually) to disable anything you won't need to run the game.

It's really strange that you don't manage to run the game, on my Win2k pc, I can run DS Games, but without any sound.

On the other hand, my former computer, a 486 DX2 66 16Mb Ram , running an Win98, I could play both games and with sounds ON!

Try pressing the "F8" key and then select to check item by item of your autoexec.bat and system.ini files.

You could also try to disable sound, it helps a lot!

Disable "doskey", disable "path", disable anything except video card, mouse and primary drivers, everything else should be turnned "off" to free up some memory.

Another option with 98 would be to create a DOS boot disk. Not sure how. I had one, but it was made from loading screen of the Forgotten Realms Silver Anniversery Game Pack. Worked with any other game as well though. I still see the FRSAGP for sale for around 9 bucks at local game stores, but I'm sure there are other methods if your truly desperate to play some old DS games (btw, the first game was cool, but I absolutely hated the story line of the second, just my own humble opinion).
