Hi, everyone!

I asked Azalin a question briefly before the termination of the Kargatane website but I never saw an answer...

In the Denizens of Darkness book, the Geist template's CR is a fixed 1/2. It looks strange, since it is a template which is applicable to a character or creature of any level. Any thoughts or suggestions?

the cr is 1/2 of old. so a cr 8 turned to a gheist is a cr 4

It's because a geist is a harmless spirit. It can not interact with the material world in any way. It's a creature of torment who can't manipulate its surroundings. Think of Haki Shimpi, probably a 16th level fighter or Aristocrat or something in life, but now is an innefectual geist who can do nothing but watch as his sons destroy his empire.

I agree with Drinnik, but bear in mind that if the players should face the Geist on the Etheral Plane, the CR would be another question entirely...

Seems simple to me...if the PCs are dealing with the Geist in "nerfed" ghost form on the material world then use the CR of 1/2. If the PCs manage to confront a geist on the ethereal plane use its old stats (and CR) with a homebrewed "generic" undead template.

Generic Undead Template (no Con, d12 HD, undead immunities, if anchored then probably immunue to turning, give it the ghost's chance to reform if destroyed). Maybe worth CR+1 for low hp-type bases (wizards & rogues), maybe not for high hp bases (barbarians).
