This is a request for NPC stats from anyone possessing the old AD&D Rogue's Gallery who would be kind enough to take the time to post them. I am looking for the "official" stats of the wizards of the Circle of Eight, and would welcome the stats of any notable Greyhawk personages detailed in the Rogue's Gallery (or any other official product). Thanks in advance.

I'll give just the stat blocks, but not the complete descriptions. In this post I'll give the stats from the Rogues Gallery, in the next post I will provide the stats from WG5 Mordenkainen's Fantastic Adventure.

I love it how the old grognards whinge about characters like Elminster and how the current edition is too munchy, and yet, look at those stats! MY GOD! Lol.

I appreciate the posts, Falconer. Yeah, I suspect that Yrag the Lord's abilities were not generated by the old 3d6 method.;)

Except for Robilar in the Rogues Gallery, none of those stats are the actual stats for the characters. Ernie and Gary wouldn't give their stats out, so the writers for the Rogues Gallery just made them up. And in WG5 Gary states that the stats listed are not the actual character stats.

I don't suppose you're going to enlighten us as to the real stats, since we're obviously a bunch of frikkin bumbling idiots.

Probably not, just more useless drivel from the "i love gary gygax" faction.

How is that drivel? If I'd asked the question, I'd certainly want to be told that the Rogues Gallery data was made up for the book rather than authentic to the original characters. The real/original/whatever stats aren't public.

Wow! Bigby was a necro? hmmm interesting for our LG plotline. Would this be common-ish knowledge amongst wiz types do you think?

Mr muddled tongue is making more and more sense :D (LG-Onnwal plotline musings only)

He wasn't a necromancer in the 2E or later edition sense. In 1E that was just the level title for a 10th level magic-user.

Oh that's so unfair.
Bigby's not a bad guy - he just liked all that dressing up in black when he was younger, lighting black candles all over the place, moping about in his laboratory, listening to loud music and hanging around graveyards with the rest of the cool kids.
He grew out of it after a while - it was just a phase.

I think I'd have had great fun hinting about it to everyone in Onnwal to promote Loris' new allys cause ...... but it looks like I was a tad over-eager. Bum! :D

It is drivel because, looking at the question:

hey, what are the stats for the GH npcs in Rogues Gallery?

hey, no problem, here's the stats

wow, and people say FR NPCs are munchkin

cool, thanks for the info!

Wait! Those stats aren't the real stats, those are a secret that only we, the true greyhawk fans who worship everything Gygax writes and nothing else, can even know about!

It's drivel because those mysterious real stats do not exist, they will never be printed and most importantly, it has nothing to do with the question.

It's not anyone's fault we don't know the real stats but the people who created the characters. Don't blame the Gygax fans, blame the Gygax's. They are the ones who won't reveal their characters' stats. Its only a game, why keep this info secret? I'll never understand that level of paranoia.

I'm currently playing a 1e illegal character, elven MU/Fighter/Thief. St 14, Int 10, Wis 11, Dex 15, Con 6, Cha 17.
Those are what 4d6 stats look like.

Now everyone can somehow hurt me. Whatever.

Argon

Dec 05, 2003 7:29:21
It is possible to get good rolls with the 3d6 version. My first character from 1E. Argon -Trollborn barbarian: Str 18/00, Con 18, Dex 15, Int 15, Wis 10, Cha 13. These are the stats I rolled up using the 3d6 method straight down. The modified version by race is Str 19, Con 19, Dex 15, Int 15, Wis 10, Cha 11. Yes he was a tank on two legs. He also despised magic. He came across a sword of dancing but didn't know it. Until he used the weapon against a hydra. He left the sword behind to fend off the hydra.

When an Elvin friend of his promised to return one day and retrieve it for him. His reply was that he hopes the beast swallow's the weapon and destroy's the foul creation within it's acidic stomach.

I remember no one wanted to have a mage of sometimes priest in the party because Argon would harass them. Besides barbarian having a great fear of magic. Argon was the union of his mother and a Troll wizard in disguise as his father. This Troll actuallly assumed leadership of the tribe until one of the tribe's shaman found that Argon was not born of Chieftains blood.
Originally the tribe had condemned his mother to death for consorting with a troll. Argon was spared by what they thought was the cheiftain of their tribe. But the tribe demanded that Argon be cast out and so he was disowned by the tribe he saw as family. Later his tribe was attacked by a group of trolls and thier own tribal chieftain which turned out to be a troll magi.
When Argon returned to prove that he belonged in his tribe he found a few surviving members which told him what had happened and many blamed him for their demise.
Argon has swore since that day to rid the world of this evil known as magic, and to find his father the true cheiftain of their tribe. In the begining Argon blamed trolls for his fate as well. But later found himself wanting to be accepted by this race as much as he wanted to be accepted by members of his tribe.

Well their's a little background information for you on my 1st edition character. Yes, we changed rules back then as well. this was from a homebrew world known as Laragund. I must admit that much of that homebrew world fit well into a Greyhawk game. Later that's where alot of what myself and many of friends developed for our GH campaign instead. As world creation is a b****! But back them I could draw some kick arse maps! Now the skill evade's me like facial hair evade's Michael Jackson.

Jesus some of you people are pathetic, but then again if you read Greytalk you know just what kind of ass Rich is. So Gygax didn't want to give out his stats for his PC's since he was still playing them. How is that a reason to bash Gygax and his fans?

Aww, they love me, they really love me...

While you're studying my metaphoric similarity to certain body parts on GreyTalk though, look a little closer and you'll notice something else about me:

I contribute to the community, a lot. I'm the most prolific author on Canonfire. I'm one of the original and most active staffmembers of that site. I tend the GreyTalk chatroom whenever I'm online.

So what, right? Well, it just means that yeah, I'm prone to getting a little "rough" attitude wise when the non-productive blowhards who have a history of publically attacking my work and the work of everyone else who is actually doing anything positive for the setting decide to try and drag their elitist whining and posturing over here.

If that makes me a bad guy, so be it, call me what you will.

One more thing, it was said that Gygax didn't give the real stats for those NPCs in the sources published, in response to a comment about the seemingly high stats the published versions have, right? What's ironic is, judging by what I've read from Rob and Gary themselves in their Dragon magazine writings and various postings to GreyTalk over the years, the real characters were almost certainly a lot more munchkin than the incarnations featured in Rogue's Gallery and WG5.

There need be a reason?

And, sir, if you go to that trash-talk, pit of vile scum-breathing, gutter-***** of a discussion list, aka GreyTalk, you deserve all the heat you get. That place was a loss a LOOOONG time ago and has, in my eyes, zero redeeming factors. So if you go there expecting polite conversation and get ****** that you don't get it then, quite frankly, you ain't exactly a shining light of intellect.
