Can a mutant creature cause mutation?

I'm planning for a mutant creature to attack the party in my game and was wondering if the creature can pass on a mutation I have created onto the victim? I'm going to have a Fort save against. Has this been done before?

No.

There was a mutation which ment that a guy could "de-evolve" you.

But mutations are only done by Radiation, or Bio-Tech in the new rules. Also with characters having to run the gauntlet of spontanious mutation when they level or their hit points reduced to 0 or less, I don't think you need any more mutation sources!

Why don't you give the character a disease instead?

You mean like Lycanthropy (werewolfism)? That's a disease, not a mutation. Mutations should not develop just because you bump against something.

I don't see why you couldn't do that. Just say the creature has a type of mutagen or nanite in its claws that causes that specific mutation. It could even be a mutant bacteria that causes the change.

Fortitude save for your White Blood Cells to fight off the mutant "infection."

Or...
You could say that the creature was digging in some old rotten drums of nanites, etc. and just happened to open the "right" thing at the "right" time and is now a walking nanite factory. IE, is disease ridden and comes upon the characters before it dies. Which is also why a normally shy or wary creature runs over and bites the party. You could even have the party run around trying to stop the spread of the nanites or look for a cure, etc.
Or...
BWAHAHAHAHAHA. Now my mutant will mutate you ALL. Evil plot line 2. Mad scientist plot. That works well. There are all sorts of ways to make this work but as a unique creature, just not as a recurring monster. That would quickly have any "power" gamers in the group looking for these creatures just to get bit and get new mutations.

"... You see him melt into a green puddle of goo."

It's Gamma World. Have fun with it.

Nannites can cause mutations....Also not all nanites are good...I can see a power gamer trying to find these creatures but not all mutations are good...so one time it could be good...the next mutate could have a bad mutation....and remember radiation can cause these mutations...try a radioactive mutant which could be a problem...radation causes damage so if you include something like this power gamers have a high death rating if they attack it.

I much prefer B5 to Star Trek but the Borg do something like that to turn other creatures into Borgs.
Makes me wonder what the orginal poster had in mind. Is it going to be a random mutation passed on or a specific mutation? Stems back to the Borg or a "de-evolve" mutation.

Shiro, good plot hook there especially if usuing the nanite idea of causing the mutation. What frequency EMP would be needed to stop the bugs from being passed on or reproducing in a host creature. Where could the PCs find a huge enough power source to create a huge EMP burst to wipe out the nanites before they spread out of the area and infect the world at large?

Depending on how powerful the mutation is (not telling the players) roll a d%. You "win" you get a powerful mutation. You "loose" and you have an arm, leg, or your willy fall off... in other words I thing a good GM should balance it out so it isn't abused like that.
Instead of just dropping dead on the spot have it be long, drawn out, and painful .

See, there you go. Plenty of ways to leave a mutant. And all it took was a little...planning.

Oh my I hope you were not saying I planned out my last post there!?!?!?! I forgot I took a pain pill for my headache and then had a drink of vodka, not usually a good combination for rational thought .... but looks like I might have touched an idea for inspiration there. "His job is to shed light but not to master".

One of the things I do like about posting about RPGs. When you're beating your head against the wall trying to work something in a game and other people toss in thier opinions it gives you a nice buffet to pick and choose ideas from.

HA! Well, I do use the word "plan" with a grain of salt. After all this is the Gamma board and we all know (ok, many of us know) that GW was never a really "serious" game to begin with. A little vodka can go a long way when you are making up a GW game.

Player 1: "-Sigh- What color is my skin now?

DM: "A loverly shade of rose blue."
Player 2: "But...there are no blue roses."
DM: "Now there are, growing out of his head."

Biff,

Somebody should have thought of this a long time ago:

A Blaash is radioactive and so can make other creatures mutate. Not quite what you had in mind, but maybe a way to model what you want to do.
