Please, can someone assist me? I am looking for an AD&D monster called THE RENDER, which I think it is from the Ravenloft monsters books. I need this monster for my next campaign and I cannot find its information on its statistics, background and level of power. It is for AD&D and all I know is that is looks like a realy heavilly furred-like creature with razor sharp claws and razor sharp teeth that towers over you. I think it is 30 feet high and has glowing yellow eyes, and massive giant feet, but that is all I know. Please if someone can help me find this monster, I would be very much in your debt.
I thank you.

Just looked through the Monstrous Compendia and there's no such critter listed. Sorry. I take it you don't mean the Gray Render from the Monster Manual/SRD?

I know what you're talking about. It's not a Ravenloft monster though, but it'd fit okay. (It's a Forgotten Realms monster, a combination of a human and a tanari of some sort, but it looks like neither. It does bear a strong resemblance to the monster in Dean Koontz's "The Watchers.")

It's in one of the 2e Monstrous Compendium Annuals. (Non-setting specific, not FR or Ravenloft or anything like that.) I'll see if I can find my collection and give you the exact book. (There were four MCAs).

Found it. MCA 3, pg 89.

It's a unique monster, looks pretty much like you described (but its only 9 feet tall). It's Chaotic Evil, Int 14.

AC -3, Move 24, HD 13 (104 hp), THAC0 7, No Att 3, Dmg 1d10/1d10/2d10, Special Attacks: Rending, berserk fury, surprise, Special Defenses: Regeneration, +1 or better weapon to hit, silver or cold iron weapons cause 1 point of damage, spell immunities, fear gaze, Magic Resistance 30%, Size L (9' tall), Morale Fearless (20), XP 19,000

Imposes -2 penalty to surprise rolls, anyone glancing into its eyes must save vs paralysis or be rooted in place by fear for 1d3 rounds, if all three melee attacks hit it rends for 2d10 more damage, regenerates 4 hp per round (major ability), continues to regenerate under -10 hp, only killed by electrical damage, needs to be reduced to -10 hp and half that damage or more must have been electrical, immune to poison, charm, and hold. If dropped below half hp, goes berserk, AC improves by one, doubles regen. Any creature that takes 40 damage from render's combined attacks in a round must save vs death magic or be instantly reduced to 0 hp.

Creature was created when a tanar'ri and dying human prisoner were accidentally fused by a Zhentarim wizard, but could be easily modified for use in any setting. In my opinion, he's pretty much a modern horror movie monster, a perfect killing machine whose stealthy, smart, and nearly impossible to kill.

thank you very much for this, also proving to others that I am not crazy into thinking there is no such monster. ^_^
