Does the new year stat jan 1st on ansalon like it does around here? Also, does anyone know around what date the Sourcebook begins current campaigns in? Or atleast what season?

Yeah, the Krynnish calendar is pretty much a standard gregorian calendar, with the months renamed different things by different races.

I would like to see that ditched eventually for a strictly lunar calendar that uses all three moons.

Well, technically, the main Ansalonian calendar (as presented in the DLCS) is strictly a Lunar Calendar based on Lunitari's cycles.

It's 12 months of 28 days (4 weeks of 7 days).

The first of the year is the 1st of Firstmonth.

The DLCS present tense is approximately 6 months after the War of Souls. And for my calendar that I am making I'm putting the gods returning on the 15th of Tenthmonth. (mainly for 2 reasons) 1) It's a relatively safe assumption that DoaVM takes place sometime at the end of the year 421 AC. And 2), since when the Moon gods return, it is a High Sanction Alignment...for ease of use, I assumed the Gods would return their moons to their proper possitions (they are Gods after all), and if the gods return on the night of the Festival of the Eye, so be it.

So that being said...present DLCS time would be Fourthmonth 422 AC. (by my reasoning)

Modern computer programs can plot the position of the moon and the stars on any given day in any given year for earth.

Would it be possible to produce something similar for Krynn based on known dates for events like the night of the eye?

Brimstone was working on a calendar a while back. I think he was pretty close to finishing it, if not fully finished...

But it's not too hard to plot, given that every month is the same, and fits neatly with each other (The first of every month is the first of the week and is also the first of the 28 moon cycle).

I don't know all the details. I didn't work on it

Not finished yet.

I kept hitting walls with it and having to redo it for one reaosn or another. (along with other personal issues)

Now, it is essentially done, but it is still missing the holidays, but after the New Year I'll get it to the Nexus/DL.com.

But, it's not a program that tracks it...it's an "in world" calendar.

Well you might be able to do it faster if you didn't spend all of your time in nightclubs with Lunitari (Nuitari told me, I trust him...I think). Lunar activity Brim? ;)

Uh...it's complicated, but it's not freaky.

It's all about not having Excel at home and just getting a new puppy, so I can't spend any time at the office, after hours. So I haven't really had time to work on it since early November.

I hear there Brim. We had a new puppy that we were taking care of for my aunt and that thing dang near required 24 hour attention.

I am not sure how to solve the no Excel problem, I suppose there is always "underhanded" methods of gaining it, but I pray you don't.

Has enough information been presented that matches up dates with the position of the moons to be able to figure out something like, on the 14th of Summer Run in 290ac, Solinari was here, Lunitari was here, and Nuitari was here?

Which also brings up the question, how many famous historical events in DL do we have the exact date for?

There are quite a few dates in the "Bertrem's guide to" books.

Daedavias, yeah, Tivadar (that's his name) is definately a chore...but one I don't mind so much. As for Excel...I'm kinda hoping I may get it for Christmas...maybe...

SageofKaolyn, yes! There will be a formula in the "Legend" part of the calendar. Because the moon phases go in 3 year cycles (thanks to all phase lengths and number of days in a month being divisable by 4), all you have to know is a starting point and you'll know which cycle to use for that year. (there are only three possibilities). As for historical events...I'm not sure how many...but we certainly have a lot of exact dates for holidays.

Darthsylver, yeah, that's what I'm using, mostly. Bertrem's Guide to the Age of Mortals has a huge section on holidays. Several for each season (for different races, too). I'm also using History of the Dragonlance Saga...and it seems like I have one more reference...but I am not for sure. Oh, duh...the DLCS also has a few...they're all religious holidays, though. But I like that.

Thanks Brim. If you ever do get it finished, would you be willing to send a copy of this program?

Well...it ended up not being a program (like I had hoped...it was too much trouble) so it's actually just an Excel file with no programmed equations. I may have bitten off more than I could chew...but since it's practically done, I will finish it.
