#1Charles_PhippsDec 14, 2003 16:14:46 | Just curious, I'm going to have our Black Robed PC be an apprentice of Dalamar and I'm curious how to build up the process to becoming an apprentice and how people envision him treating his apprentices. What kind of tests and services will he require of one? At present we're still developing what type of wizard concept he'll be One has been that he like Dalamar was a Silvastani elf outcast (for murdering a rival for love even though it was arguably justified by his treatment of her) |

#3mysterisDec 15, 2003 7:25:51 | I would think that Dalamar would be a curious master to work under. On the one hand, the books always depicted him as somewhat civilized and more in tune with the world around him than his master was. On the other hand, he is a black-robe and sworn to the cause of evil. I'd say that he would always attempt to appear charming, civilized, and polite. His rebukes might be scathing, but always delivered in a calm and perhaps even clinical matter. He might assign tasks that seem unfair, even cruel, but he'd appeal to his apprentice's sense of power, the idea that "Yes, this is hard now, but one day you will be the master and will earn the right to live in luxury." And don't forget that he would be very smart. He survived training under Raistlin, Kitiara's betrayals, and even had words with Lord Soth and the Queen of Darkness and came out in one piece. Under the charming, cultured veneer is a sharp and cunning man, one who would be keeping an eye on all his apprentices, even if he doesn't seem to be. Being evil, he wouldn't hesitate to strike down any of his students who seemed to be plotting against him and tossing their bodies to the Guardians of Shoikan Grove or the Tower, just as a precaution. |
#4ferratusDec 16, 2003 12:26:53 | Well, given his record for sensuality, I imagine being an apprentice of Dalamar would involve soft music, candlelight... He offered to teach me stuff no other man could, but I politely declined. ;) |
#5darthsylverDec 16, 2003 15:32:36 | Just an opinion but I think that if you make the apprentice a dark elf like Dalamar it will detract from the uniqueness that is Dalamar. Now if you are just looking for a good dose of fear you could make the apprentice a Yaddol. Imagine the look on you PCs faces when they see a Black robed "Mind Flayer." Man I can hear the screams now. :D :D |
#6zombiegleemaxDec 16, 2003 21:15:40 | an interesting idea would be an afflicted kender...turning to magic to seek revenge on the world for the loss of kendermore.. just an idea.. |
#7zombiegleemaxDec 16, 2003 21:17:05 | That would be pretty cool actually! |
#8darthsylverDec 16, 2003 21:41:46 | Which one Primus? The Kender or Yaddol? |
#9zombiegleemaxDec 16, 2003 21:43:59 | Kender are fun, though Dalamar probably wouldn;t put up with one. The Yaggol on the otherhand would be very very interesting. |
#10Charles_PhippsDec 18, 2003 19:51:53 | This is the player speaking... The idea suddenly Dalamar, a very well detailed character, finds himself with a person of his own cultural background (perhaps one whom is slightly different-perhaps lower class) and suddenly he's no longer alone Do they hate each other for their differences though, however minor or thrive on a shared thread neither can deny? |
#11zombiegleemaxDec 18, 2003 20:54:36 | Depends. Which one's more powerful? The weaker (assumedly the student) will probably be eternally jealous of the stronger (Dalamar). But what if the student starts showing more promise than Dalamar? Could reverse the roles very quickly, and a jealous head of the black robes is not a good thing... |
