i was over at my uncles a while ago and he showed me some of his alternate settings books from the early 80s. the only name i could rember was GAMMA RAY, a futuristic setting. i also rember him talking about some other ones like this:

1. present day
2. an almost cyber punk like shadow run
3. and a bunch of others

i know these exist but i wonder if d20 has taken over:OMG!

d20 has taken over for Wizards. But mind you, this is an old yet successful business formula.

Look at other companies, like White Wolf. All of their RPGs are based on the Storyteller System engine.

While those discontinued products are good, they are not enough to sell really well for the business (i.e., TSR) to maintain the product lines.

IMHO overall Shadowrun is the best of the bunch. Hands down.

And yes, I'm including my own altered-d20-based Sci-fi/horror system in the running. I would put it at #2, but with shadowrun in the running, is there really a race?

Take D20 Modern and modify it...It can be great.

Have you ever had a joust with an undead kensai on a spirt horse, while you buzz at 110 mph on your motorcycle with a gunblade? The results are awsome, I gaurntee you that.

Five-way firefight between a western dragon, a collection of fire elementals, a cybered-up troll with a minigun, a troop of heavilly armored corporate security squad, and a Vectored Thrust stealth fighter.

All on the OUTSIDE the fuselage of a supersonic intercontinental transport in flight!

Dearest holy GODS, I love Shadowrun! Of all my golden gaming moments on either side of the screen, 9 out of 10 are from Shadowrun.

Once I get my setting finished and published, I'm considering releasing a modern setting which will be my standard setting but in the furture. Humans and Halflings will be the main races, and elves, orcs, goblins and dwarfs will be reduced to halfbloods by then. No purebloods will exist. The gods will have forsaken the world. Magic will have been all but forgotten by all but the most excentric scholors. I will probably use a d20 modern like mechanic where spellcasters will all be PrCs (may have to pick up Urban Arcana if it's OGL to get some ideas).

Modern Fantasy sounds like an amazingly fun setting if it were done right.

Actually, this doesn't belong on the D&D boards. Let's see if I can more it to a more appropriate place.
