Hey everyone, Me and my friends often play 2nd edition and my favorite class is the specialty priests that I take from Faiths and Avatars and Powers and Pantheons. The problem is that I just found out that I lack information when it comes to high level specialty priests. They get the same level progression as the druids, but what happens when they reach level 15? The druids gets the extra spells, and later the special abilities, but nothing is said for the specialty priests (at least in the books that I have). I don't think they simply progress as a regular cleric, since they require a lot more experience. If someone knows more about this, please help. Thanks. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 2] Author : tankschmidt Date : 07-19-07 08:26 PM Thread Title : Re: 2nd Edition Specialty Priests info needed. Wow - we must have done things really wrong. In our games, they always progressed at the same rate as clerics. I don't know where my Faiths and Avatars is, but Powers and Pantheons says on page 5 that the experience point progression is located in F&A for all specialty priests. Page 6 of P&P, as I'm sure you know, has the extended spell progressions but no experience progressions. Sorry I can't be much help! Anyone with a handy F&A out there? -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 3] Author : oralpain Date : 07-20-07 08:09 PM Thread Title : Re: 2nd Edition Specialty Priests info needed. Unless otherwise stated, specialty priests use the cleric level and spell advancement. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 4] Author : Varl Date : 07-20-07 11:08 PM Thread Title : Re: 2nd Edition Specialty Priests info needed. Expanded Priest Experience Levels can be found on page 183 of Faiths and Avatars. They do advance identically to druids according to the table, but at 17th level, is when the druid heirophant experience levels kick in. Note that the values for heirophant added to the previous druid level totals end up being identical to the values under specialty priest. So, it looks like they advance identically to druids without the heirophant specifics. Hope this helps. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 5] Author : Kadani Date : 07-21-07 03:58 PM Thread Title : Re: 2nd Edition Specialty Priests info needed. Yeah Varl, what you said is pretty much all the info I have myself, I was hoping someone would know exactly what happens with the specialty priests when they get to lvl 15 and up, because somehow there must be something to justify the fact that a regular cleric will reach level 21 (and then keep advancing twice as fast) before a specialty priest reaches 15. I find it weird that this doesn't seem to be explained anywhere when specialty priest are often referred to in many books. The druid, which they refer to as a specialty priest oriented towards nature, is precisely defined, with it's own book and everything. The variation in the experience table is explained well with in game constraints about level advancement. If I can't find anything, I will probably come up with a new table with my DM. It's in moments like these that I find it regrettable that WOTC completely dropped the 2nd edition. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 6] Author : Varl Date : 07-21-07 08:00 PM Thread Title : Re: 2nd Edition Specialty Priests info needed. One possible justification could be the constant reminder by all those people out there that think all those added spells and abilities granted to specialty priests, but not to clerics, are overpowered. That might not be enough of a justification, but it helps. One very easy solution is to do what I and several other people I know did: drop generic clerics completely. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 7] Author : Wyrmbane Date : 07-22-07 06:08 PM Thread Title : Re: 2nd Edition Specialty Priests info needed. The High Level Campaigns book has stuff for all classes after 20, course this doesn't help you for 15 to 20. As far as xp tables go, unless otherwise stated specialty priests use the cleric table. Each specialty priest gets stuff as they progress so I don't understand the concern about comparing them to druids. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 8] Author : Kadani Date : 07-22-07 06:08 PM Thread Title : Re: 2nd Edition Specialty Priests info needed. Yeah, that's pretty much what we did here too. Unless someone wants to dual/multi class (even then, some DMs allow it), we usually use the specialty priests since they are more interesting. And for LEMARQUEZ, I already have the Priest's Handbook and it doesn't say anything more about specialty priests. I think the problem is that all the specialty priests appeared in books that came out after most rules books were published, and back then they didn't came out with new supplements every week, so nothing was ever published to clarify the situation. Anyways, since I doubt we will ever know for sure, I think we can all make our own little rules about the situation :P. Thanks for trying to help Varl. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 9] Author : WizO_Cat Date : 07-22-07 10:46 PM Thread Title : Re: 2nd Edition Specialty Priests info needed.
