Guys

What would happen if Gith came back from the abyss to the githyanki/githzeri.

Also what was the name of that dude that nearly beat the lady of pain? and how did he do it and what did he do?

Moreover where can I get some good lore on the planes history?

not much I know!!!!

Assuming Gith were to return from Baator it would depend on what she actually returned as. With Vlaakith's death it's very much possible that she might be able to unify the Githyanki again as a monarch with more support and loyalty than Vlaakith herself ever had. It might also be possible that Gith, if dead and trapped in Baator might be elevated to godhood by the devotion of her people to her that she might return to them to lead to glory and conquest. Lots of possibilities.

That might also force some changes within Githzerei society as well if a returned Gith, in whatever form, turned the eyes of the 'yanki to their racial brothers in Limbo. The worship or Zerthimon then might increase among the 'zerei and destabilize the rule of the 'zerei wizard-king. He already takes a dim view on the worship of Zerthimon as is.

The mage who according to legend nearly defeated The Lady of Pain had no name. But his identity is now known following the Faction War. And it wasn't really a close battle. She toyed with him over the course of 10's of thousands of years.

*spoilers*

His identity was as one of the incarnations of Duke Rowan Darkwood of the fated, the last one. Darkwood's first attempt resulting in his being mazed and catapulted hundreds of years back in time. He lost his sanity during that period, escaped once more when time caught up with him and he experienced the Faction War a second time. He was then hurtled backwards in time again after cracking open the Labyrinth Gem and killing the spirit of the trapped mage within. He awoke tens of thousands of years prior, amnesiac and without a name, knowing only that a man named Darkwood had caused all of his pain and that a bladed woman in a ring shaped city mocked and toyed with him. He escaped fiendish slavery, learned magic, became perhaps the greatest mage to walk to planes since then and entered Sigil to fight The Lady. When they fought she bottled him within the stone henceforth known as The Labyrinth Gem, telling him that only he could open his own prison, and then only from the outside. She then hurled the stone to Pandemonium where in the present day it would be recovered, lost, recovered and then used by Darkwood, unknowing killing himself in a tight little time loop.

It was no contest, She toyed with him over a timescale to make immortals blink, and apparently with advance knowledge of the future events that the gem would play a role within. Seems The Lady's awareness within Sigil transcends the normal flow of time.

(thats a quick and very much abbreviated version of Darkwood's role in Faction War. I've got a very much more detailed version written down in another thread here on the boards somewhere)

As far as Planar history, check out that module, The Factol's Manifesto, and various other Planescape supplements and box sets. It's scattered around. Or if you have more specific questions, others here on the board along with myself are usually quite flattered to answer. *preen*

*Falls over openmouthed*

Bloody hell mate thats an answer and a half! THANKS!!!!!

You are the Planescape loremaster.......

I am running a Planescape campaign at the moment. I had the origonal 2nd ed boxed set and read alot on the more well known bits of lore regarding the planes... Its just some of the Cannon titbits you hear a snippit about but never quite get the full story on....

In my Planescape I have just introduced the faction war, twas quite a nasty surprise when the players got back to Sigil for (and I quote) 'A quite day or two at the civic festhall' only to find riots and warring on the streets of sigil.

all I heard was whimpers 'wheres the lady of pain?' before we cut for the night.

I have created a storyline using the Gith and the thread above, and played with the timline I am aware of a bit so that Vlaakith orchestrated dominated and unaware pawns in the factions to kick off. whilst she drains the ancient Gith deity of his power.

She has also commanded her minions to invade key prime worlds to keep eyes off what she is doing from the prime gods.

Trouble is I need a decent what happened to the lady of pain thing.... I could just do it as a 'she doesnt care thing' but I would like to use it possibly as a small side adventure... this would in effect get them three possible outcomes to the campaign.

One they will go straight for Vlaakith (once they find out whats going on) and try to either go head on (ulp good luck)

Two they will take another adventure branch and attempt to break the Red dragon / Githyanki alliance to help save the poor primes.

Three an as of yet unfinished find out whats with the lady of pain thing.

This should generate some nice fat stories for other campaigns after..........

thats the idea... its just the details..................

So true, the Citadel of Gith Reborn.

Ashy, how much have you incorporated the events of that module into your own games, or rather how much do you consider it canonical for PS? I never much payed attention to it since it was a greyhawk supplement as far as I knew. Perhaps thats wrong of me.

A renegade Githyanki knight who had forsaken the Lich Queen began to develop enhanced psionic powers and gain visions. She believed that Gith was dead, but that she was a reincarnation of the Gith savior herself. Who knows if she was or wasn't. The Lich Queen was out for her, and I think she was killed in that module anyways.

My own opinion would be that she wasn't, but it was never said for certain, as it should be. ;)

I have devised a Gith plan for my upcming Githyanki game. ts kinda different....

"The Return of Gith - Now this is an often used little plot device, but I'm going to use it. Long ago, in those days when the 'Yanki and the 'Zerai first split Gith travelled to Baator to enlist aid. What occurred there is secret, but Gith never returned, the red dragons swore and oath of fealty, and Vlaakith was named successor. The true story is that Vlaakith, sneaky as she was, arranged a pact with the dragon goddess, communicating with her before Gith had even arrived. Tiamat took Gith's mortal form as compensation and swore an alliance. In a secret ceremony, Tiamat implanted Gith with a dark artifact. Meanwhile, Vlaakith encouraged Gith worship making Gith's name a common oath or pledge. The belief in their Warrior-Queen poured through the Astral into Baator, drawn into Tiamat through her powerful artifact, leeching the belief and, in turn, the power that rightfully belonged to Gith. Tiamat kept Gith alive, trapped in a prison deep in the realms of Baator. Her eyes were watchful, her gaze always watching, but eons have passed and Gith is no threat. Tiamat's eyes have become lax. But no worries. Gith isn't going anywhere.

Now, the freeing of Gith will be indirect. Anyone who tries to descend into Baator to free a mortal under the personal guard of Tiamat deserves their fate. Destruction of an artifact and the actions of one who is in the background, trying to affect outcomes, will cause the Warrior Queen's release. The voice of the unseen will tell her of new developements and the current state of her race. Gith will vanish and a new quest of some kind will force the Warrior Queen from the party's minds.

But Gith does not merely vanish into obscurity. Her will is strong and her rage is powerful. She has spent eons trapped, watching as Tiamat tormented her with visions of her traitorous lieutenant and her lieutenants progeny, watching as her race sided with the enemy. The Warrior Queen declares war the 'Yanki, her long red hair burning like fire as she attacks settlement after settlement like a whirlwind of doom. Those who see her say that she wields a tremendous blade that cuts through armor like butter and a crown of knives, though none can say more than that. When the characters finally see Gith and her marvelous weapon the resemblance to the Lady's blades becomes apparent as does the weapon's awesome power as she pierces a small god island, destroying it in a cataclysmic blast. The blade and, the crown that comes from wielding it, were pulled from Aoskar's corpse, gifted to her by the being who guards the corpse from intrusion."

Zellor didn't actually abandon the lich-queen until after she came to the conclusion that she was Gith reborn. Her fate was left to DMs, as her module is little more than a map and some NPCs.

Primus: Why is she attacking the githyanki, rather than the dragons?

Madness, maybe?

Her next plan is an assault on the Dragon Queen herself, but she is not strong enough yet and she knows it. Remember, she's been a prisoner for years. Her body has withered and is mostly useless. Her mind, however, is still as strong as ever, most likely far stronger if a bit addled. Remember, on the Astral speed, strength, and general power are based on the power of one's mind rather than the power of one's body.

actually no, it was a late planescape book. it was actually going to carry the logo at one point. but, alas, it was thought that it would sell better as a generic product.
as for how i incorporated it...well it's the best city of glass write up ive ever seen, the demiplane of invention is fun...my pc's have actually returned there. The titan adventure fit nicely with the into the light story from dead gods in the idea of using a gods physical body to build structures....

the thing i liked the most in VoM though is the gith adventure. i love the idea of a cold war being fought between the followers of this new "gith" and vlaakith, since both sides are githyanki and find the idea of fighting eachother abhorrent, it opens up wonderful adventure oppurtunities for future games. heck i wouldnt put it past the renegade gith to have stolen v's phylactery in order to depose the queen.
oh and "Gith reborn" likely isnt dead as the PC's are on her side in the adventure and there is never any battle with her.

I stand corrected on the info from the Gith adventure in VoM, it's been a very long time since I actually read it. I should do so again, thanks.
