#1DragonhelmJan 12, 2004 17:14:11 | Hey, gang! Newsarama has posted an 8-page preview of the upcoming Legend of Huma comcic book. You can see it here: Legend of Huma Preview Click on the thumbnails, and you'll see a larger pic. Enjoy! |
#2zombiegleemaxJan 13, 2004 7:01:29 | Why is Huma left-handed? |
#3cam_banksJan 13, 2004 8:28:30 | Originally posted by pddisc Because he isn't right-handed? Cheers, Cam |
#4silvanthalasJan 13, 2004 8:59:38 | Most likely just an artistic decision. As long as it's consistent, it shoudln't be a problem. |
#5DragonhelmJan 13, 2004 9:15:22 | Originally posted by pddisc The Legend of Huma states that Huma is left-handed. In the text for the preview scene, it mentions how he draws the sword with his left hand. On the new cover of the novel, you see Huma holding the dragonlance with his left hand as well. |
#6zombiegleemaxJan 13, 2004 9:19:32 | OK, I was just wondering. I generally don't think of which handed characters are, and so it just stood out to me. Was there any original reason to make him left-handed though, in the novel? |
#7DragonhelmJan 13, 2004 9:42:00 | Originally posted by pddisc Not that I know of. He's left-handed just like he is blonde. It's part of who he is. |
#8zombiegleemaxJan 13, 2004 10:02:25 | Yeah, but blond (blonde is the feminine version) and blue-eyed are the traditional western **** heroes, and at the very least, there are certain things you get from a blond, blue eyed hero figure. He was a fictional creation, so what we have is put there for a reason. Do you think Piggy from Lord of the Flies would have made much sense with an athletic figure? A left-handed swordsman is unusual. Typically, they were better fighters, because nearly everyone was trained against right-handed fighters, and these guys had a surprise advantage over them. Fighting up staircases was easier, because the wall wasn't on the wrong side. So on. They were harder to train though, because a left-handed fighter would have to teach them, and Huma was only a fairly young knight... Was he even more exceptional than we already thought? |
#9cam_banksJan 13, 2004 10:21:07 | Originally posted by pddisc Caramon was also left-handed. I don't think it's that big of a deal in the Dragonlance setting. Cheers, Cam |
#10silvanthalasJan 13, 2004 15:55:41 | Originally posted by Cam Banks Well, in our own history, it did make a bit of difference, as a left-handed swordsman was frowned upon (iirc). There are some things involved, like the salute, which was to show a person as being empty-handed (since most people are right-handed). But yeah, in DL, unless somebody wants to get into those kinds of things with knights and salutes and sword hands, it isn't a big deal. |

#12lugnut71Jan 14, 2004 11:59:20 | This is totally off topic but how the heck do you get cool names like Trampas Whiteman and Cam (I'm guessing that is short for something) Banks. Assuming those are real names perhaps fake names given to people in the witness protection program. |
#13brimstoneJan 14, 2004 12:31:15 | Well...first you start by getting your parents really really high. Then, you give them a dictionary...but make sure they're looking at it upside down...then step back, and let the magic do it's work. |
#14DragonhelmJan 14, 2004 13:14:47 | Originally posted by lugnut71 Cam, run! He's found out our secret! ;) In Cam's case, Cam is short for Cameron. In my case, I was named after a character on The Virginian, an old 90 minute western that aired in the 60s. It has popped up on the Hallmark Channel lately, which is cool. Go to www.buckskins.com and you'll see a tribute site for the character. Thanks for the compliment on our names, though. |
#15cam_banksJan 14, 2004 15:24:02 | Originally posted by Dragonhelm I'm actually of Korean descent. No, really. And here's a bridge I think you'll be interested in buying... As Trampas says, Cameron (Cam for short) really is my name. I don't use pseudonyms online except for email accounts (where I'm usually boymonster). Given that Cameron translates from Gaelic for "crooked nose", I doubt I would have picked it myself. Cheers, Cam |
#16brimstoneJan 14, 2004 15:35:38 | Originally posted by Cam Banks HA HA! I get it. "Crooked nose"..."picked it." Heh heh.... |
#17dragontoothJan 14, 2004 23:41:53 | The comic looks really great. Thanks for posting the link to the page. Can't wait to get ahold of it come Feb. |
#18daedavias_dupJan 15, 2004 0:29:58 | Originally posted by Cam Banks Well, mine (Troy) is Irish Gaelic for "foot soldier." Alongside my middle name (Howard) which means "watchman" in Old English, I think I have a name not quite fitting for me. Seriously, if you were to meet me in person you would get the idea. ...back on topic time... So when is the comic coming out again, so I know when I have to raid the local comic store? |
#19ferratusJan 15, 2004 1:25:05 | I keep getting different meanings for mine every time I read mine. It alternatively means "tender", "inspiration", "to polish", and "tyrant or ruler". "Tender" and "Gracious" are the most common meanings mentioned in the baby books and are likely what my mother had in mind, proving that I was ill-named. My dad wanted to name me Conrad, which would have meant "bold and able counselor". |
#20brimstoneJan 15, 2004 9:43:31 | Well...while we're discussing name origins... Tobin is a bastardized version of Tobias (or Tobiah). It's Hebrew meaning...well...I've seen two definitions, it's either "kingly" or "God is good." Personally...I'm betting it's "kingly." :D |
#21DragonhelmJan 15, 2004 10:06:20 | Originally posted by Daedavias February 4. And Trampas in Spanish means "trap". I'm not sure what to think about that. |
#22daedavias_dupJan 15, 2004 10:32:26 | Originally posted by Dragonhelm Okay, I know there is supposed to be an alternate cover...I think...is that coming out at the same time as the original. You know, we did this whole name meaning thread a long time ago...deja vu to the max. :P |
#23dragontoothJan 16, 2004 17:02:58 | Is the comic Monthly? Quarterly? or what? |
#24zombiegleemaxJan 16, 2004 17:15:48 | I think I wont say what Trampa means to some portuguese speakers. |
#25DragonhelmJan 16, 2004 17:23:25 | Originally posted by lost_boy_84 I've heard it also means "hobo". E-mail me in private and let me know. I'm curious now. ;) |
#26zombiegleemaxJan 17, 2004 6:56:12 | Hehe. I sent you a private message :P |
#27DragonhelmJan 17, 2004 8:15:50 | Originally posted by lost_boy_84 Could you re-send that? I got an e-mail saying my private message inbox was full and that your message didn't make it. I didn't realize that 5 messages constituted as being full. *sigh* |
#28zombiegleemaxJan 17, 2004 14:39:25 | Sent once again |
#29lugnut71Jan 18, 2004 18:14:01 | All this talk about names started me thinking so I looked up mine. Lee means meadow. I was named after an aunt. I'm a guy. Actually I figured Cam was short for something I don't know why I couldn't figure out Cameron. I feel stupid now. |
#30zombiegleemaxJan 22, 2004 21:31:41 | Originally posted by Daedavias Yes. :D Originally posted by Dragontooth Monthly. And if all goes as planned we may see two issues in February (one at the very beginning, the 4th, and one at the very end.) :D |
#31silvanthalasJan 23, 2004 8:05:27 | Originally posted by Mike Bullock Then when would we expect the issue for March? |
#32DragonhelmJan 23, 2004 9:53:36 | Originally posted by silvanthalas I'm not sure on the exact date, but I think mid-March. |
#33zombiegleemaxJan 29, 2004 6:55:38 | Hi gang! Hre's the newest Dragonlance preview for you to feast your eyes on. With less than a week to go before this one hits the shelves, I'm starting to feel like a little kid the week before Christmas! :D |

#38zombiegleemaxFeb 04, 2004 22:58:03 | Just finished reading it, great stuff! In case anyone cares, I whipped out my LoH novel to see how far into it the first issue of the comic goes. It stops about the middle of page 34 in the book (the re-release with the new cover from last month, I'm not sure if the pages are the same in all editions.) Oh, and one more thing, Kaz has hooves in the comic, not feet. Once again, if anyone cares. |
